This is what mariolee. was working on.
This is probably my fourth Galaxy box, but it features a design IÂ’ve only dreamt of doing: Mario with his back to the audience. It stunned me that I thought there was no way to do this because there wasnÂ’t a render of Mario with his back toward us when it hit me. Durr, his back was toward us the entire two games! Thanks to the dolphin emulator, I obtained a high res screenshot of him and put him against the backdrop of the big and beautiful galaxy.
I love this box, but if there was one thing I would do differently, it would be to create the two cool planets on the back by hand. You see, due to time constraints to make the deadline of the competition, I had to rip the two planets from Google, mess with the colors and blending, and make it match the style of the box. I feel really bad, especially after the whole Hellknight thing, but I hope you can still see how much of my heart went into this box.
What sucks is this box has shown me how much time I don’t have anymore for creating custom boxes. But hopefully this will give me the KICKSTART™ I need to create more. Thanks everyone! Happy VGBA Kickstart the Boxart 2011!
Perfect box for this event Mariolee! The front couldn't be more perfect. I just love the image of Mario looking out into the vastness of space. It represents the feel of the game very well. The back is very nice too. The colors, constellations, and layout work great. Fantastic job!
Not bad. The colors are attractive, and Mario facing away from the "audience" is a cool concept, and executed nicely. You may have gone a little overboard with all the bright starts, especially towards the upper half of the front. Again, another nice idea with the constellations forming different power-ups.
Overall, a good design. Although I never understood this fascination with all lower-case text.
The nebula in the front is a bit too much, but the overall presentation is great. I like the way you designed the disc, and the layout of the back is organized neatly.
Wonderful job, Mariolee. Just beautiful. I like that you were daring enough to make a cover with Mario facing away from the audience, and you get major points for acquiring your own images to work with when you couldn't find what you wanted, instead of relying solely on google images.
The presentation is kind of overbearing however it is nice. Knowing me, I am a stickler for using official templates and whatnot, but it looks well done.
mariolee, can i ask where you got the cool text from
it looks really effective in those super mario galaxy boxes you make
the one i was talking about is the writing which says like welcome to a new galaxy
that's so cool!!!

Pretty good. Not a fan of the overly-wide presentation but everything else is pretty solid.

Thanks UF! :p
I totally remember your name. We didn't know each other much cause I was never in the forums, but yeah. I got better since you left. :p

Dear Jesus, this is beautiful. I just wish the font on the back was different and Mario was a bit bigger.

If I may ask, where did the incredible background image come from? So much character comes from that image.

I knew I'd seen that galaxy on the front before, I used it for my discontinued SMG2 box as well.
You used it way better than me though, excellent job.

#24 Thanks Roar, it means a lot!
#25 That font is Geo Sans Light

#26 Is it really? I would've loved to see what you could do with it though. CONTINUE IT.

This reminds me a lil' bit of Geometry Wars, good box though.

This is awesomely colourful, but I think its a little dark on the bottom half of the front. I really like the simpleness of the back too.
