Nice color editing, entire design is quite good. Maybe lower the opacity slightly on the Hylian text? I think I remember someone else making the same suggestion, it's not a huge deal but in the end I think it'd look better.
This is my entry for The Expressions Session 3, logo-less boxes.
I started this box a few months ago, but got nowhere and kind of left it. This Session allowed me to unearth and finish what, I think, may be my best box yet.
There are about three or four different textures used throughout, and a few more used in specific places. The Hylian on the front is the script from the prologue scroll of the game, the text on the back is the last conversation between Ganondorf and the King of Hyrule. The pedestal render was "drawn" by me (no tablet, so I used my mouse), and the text on the sword says "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA" on the right and "THE WIND WAKER" on the left. All in all, this box took me about...20 or so hours of work, between conceptualizing, working, reworking, changing, adjusting, and setting up the presentation.
Don't forget to full-view and check out the printable. Comments and critiques welcome.
Hope you like it :)
Edit: #2, The text opacity on the printable is lower, I hope that's fine.
#6 - I didnt mean i lost my virginity, i meant that my eyes lost their virginity after seeing this box or something like that - do you understand that xDD I dont really understand it myself, it should be a compliment.
Oh, and a BIG BIG thank you to all the people that helped me out on my WIP thread: gameninja, Silent Oblivion, woopwoop11, Spiderpig24, beardedwalrus, mariolee, jesse777, YoshiStar, afifan000, del1337er, and WWF, thank you guys so much :)
Wow.... I mean, not that the use of the stained glass is original, they've been used over and over, but damn this is nice. And you know what? I'm going to fave for that spine art alone. That's truly brilliant and deserves a fave simply because you thought of it.
#12, Thanks, that spine had been a point of contention in the WIP thread, but I'm glad I kept it. The pedestal alone took me four hours from start to finish.
#15, It looks odd because I'm used to Zelda being colorful, and not golden, white, gray, and brown, it's a good design but I'm feeling the colors so much. Usually mosaics have many different colors. Good design, just not for me.
#16, Granted. I just thought that, since Zelda has always had a history of gold boxes and gold cartridges and discs, I sort of took that and ran with it, giving it a more muted color scheme and a golden glow.
I knew I was going to be favoriting this when I saw the thumbnail, and I most definitely wasn't wrong.
This is just spectacular. Love the spine, love the regal, legendary, and almost divine look of it.
Damn, man. I hope we'll be seeing more on par with this from you.
I really think you should cut out the 3D image, though. Having both makes it unnecessarily large, which is annoying and it puts a bigger strain on the servers.
More importantly, though, it's too much to take in all at once and I think that kind of muffles the initial impact of seeing it. Remember, while presentation is important, the purpose of it is the box, not the presentation.
#20, Hmm, maybe. I don't know, though. I like the flat view because it gives you the full image of the sword, and I like the way the 3D box looks, and how it makes most presentations look more professional. If more people ask for it, though, I'll kill the 3D.
#22, No, it wouldn't have been. I'm not a good artist, and I wanted the box to look professional, meaning, using official art. Please don't launch a fatwa against people that don't draw their own covers.
When I first saw this box, I thought it was awesome.
Then I thought it was insane.
Then just straight out beautiful.
But there is only one way to describe it:
Goddamn HARDCORE.
Oh, and about the presentation issue, do what many artists do, only use the 3d one... I personally look at the printables anyway so I can see that connection through that.
But anyway, GODDAMN HARDCORE! GODDAMN HARCORE! GODDAMN HARDCORE! :P
This box is outstanding. It has the same sense of timelessness that most Zelda games have. The artwork is obviously from Wind Waker, but the way you reworked it is good and so natural that it makes it look like it could almost be used for any Zelda game. Great box.
Congratulations on the Hall, you defiantly deserved it.
As for the presentation issue, 2d is for Quality, 3d is for Design. Even thought this box is more Design than Quality, this box works better 2D because of the sword.
I'm amazed. It's incredible. And for the presentation, just cut out the 3d one. It doesn't look as good as the 2d because of the sword. +fav and I wish I could +author fav
Updated with 2D-only presentation (3D on version 1)
Thanks to everyone that's commented and faved, I can't tell you how happy I am to get my first Hall of Fame award! I hope you'll all continue to be as supportive and positive as you've been today.
You are one talented newbie.
Everything about this looks absolutely stunning. I love The Master Sword splitting into each part of the cover. It makes the whole thing look like the alter of the sword surrounded by the stained glass windows. The presentation is the best part in my opinion. Where did you find that image of Hyrule Castle?
Overall, this is really amazing. I have no words to describe it.
- Hall of Fame Medal added to presentation (looks a bit large, might need a follow-up update)
- overall presentation made brighter
- updated username logo
- printable brightened a bit to make for clearer printouts
Now I guess I should go make some new boxes, huh. :)
Maybe I'm just being an ass.. but.. I have been trying to understand why this box is so popular, for a very long time.
It's nice, yeah, but it's just the stainglass art with other stuff added... right?..
Holy...
