Ah.. Shadow of the Colossus. A game so beautiful it cannot be described by words, but instead through art. This, among others, is the reason I chose to create a box art for it.
The feel and atmosphere were the two most important things I had to focus on when designing this box, as those are the best parts of the game. Rather than automatically increasing the contrast, sharpness, and saturation of every component of the box like I usually do, I balanced all of these throughout the piece to give it a much more misty, open atmosphere.
That little bit of information should give you a good idea for the amount of thought I put into this project. ;) So.. view in full and tell me what you think!
#10- Heehee, yeah, I'll make an ICO box and call it the Prohibited Art Project and once you submit a new box I'll make a box for the same game, etc. for eternity. [/not a stalker] [/not sarcastic]
XD
But... if it's the hardest box to make ever...

I think it would be awesome if you added a Collosus into the background on the front, so he's kind of like in the middle gap but his arms are just sticking out the left and right ones. it's kind of hard to explain but if you could make the feeling as if something massive is so far away so it looks small from a distance, it would be awesome. i'm not entirely sure what i'm talking about though...
#18- I understand. ;) Yeah, I actually thought about doing that, but the subtlety of the current version is much more appealing.. aesthetically... in my opinion. The shadow makes you /infer/ that he's there, but you don't physically see him. It gives it a mysterious feel.
EDIT: Oh, yeah.. thanks for the comments and favs! I'm glad and proud to see this go into the Hall. :)
I love how the front, without even using a colossus, still manages to feel as if its towering over you. The subtlety of the shadow is very nice, and differentiates the front from previous submissions. The back is kind of generic, only because of all the backs modeled similarly before it. The background pic for the back and the canvas are nice though.
SOTC overall has awesome boxes for such a niche game.
@21, XD Where'd that come from?!
>___o
Will you stop being better than me?

As for the box, it has a very nostalgic feel to it. I wonder why... ;)

#13- Nah, that'd ruin the feel. I intently made a peaceful, epic scene to portray the feeling you get when playing SotC.

#24, Actually, at first I thought that Vengeance's idea would be pretty cool. Only one problem with that though...
No colossus in its right mind would ever approach the Shrine of Worship.
