Welcome to the site, man. It's refreshing to see a new member that actually knows how to use an image-editing program.

**Before I write anything I just want to express my warmest thank you to qwerty for the creation of the beautfiful PS2 template I have used for this design - so THANKS man!!!**

Ok, now this will be a kinda lengthy post so bear with me here as I'm new and well, this is my ENTRY submission so it's kinda special haha.

Here's a little story of how I found myself here at vgboxarts.
So it goes without saying that MGS3 is one of my favourite games of all time (the entire series for that matter) and I was never a big fan of the original US cover so I thought to myself. Well, lets browse the net and see what we can find to print out to replace it. I'm a very visual person so the presentation of something is very important to me. And well, I want the best visual design as well as what's most appropriate to my personal tastes as far as my favourite games go.
So, upon browsing one of the first box arts that stood out for me in google was actually Ladykiller's (a member of this site!) I was like, now THIS is more like it...it used a SINGLE art style (not 2 like in the official - yuck!) and more importantly it used the primary colour of green (which is exactly what I had in mind when browsing around) that I feel is the TRUE colour that represents the game that is MGS3. So immediately I was like (don't hate me LK for saying this) hell yeah, I'm taking this and printing it out...but...
I thought nahhhh...even though it's 10X better than the official and totally beautiful to look at it's still not what I want to use as the cover if only because of one reason. It doesn't match MGS2's cover art. THAT's what I wanted and no one has surprisingly here has done that yet.
MGS2 is one of my favourite game covers of all time. It's one of the rare times well I actually would never want to replace it because I think it's just perfect. It used hand drawn ART - a plus! It had minimal use of colour - a PLUS! (I LOVED the effect the red and white stripes had - PERFECT example of less is more!) The composition was ACE - a plus! (with Snake heroically placed with a gun in hand popping out from the left side of the front.) It's just an awesome cover.
With all this said and done I knew I had to make a MGS2-styled cover for MGS3 and with this image of Snake holding a gun (official art for MGS3) I just felt this total satisfaction and excitement to get this started. SO I wasted no time and got right down to it.

So in the end, the final design is the result of pleasing my own desires to get the EXACT cover I wanted. I feel it was well worth the time and seeing how this whole experience brought me to this site I figured, heyy...why not share this whole thing with others who appreciate gaming and art and NICE boxarts haha. Who knows, perhaps there are others out there who share the same philosophy I had with this?

I hope others will enjoy this design.
Initially, I had it more plain but since the game has a lot to do with the jungle and is gritty I had to add some textures/effects to give it a more "unclean" look. The back in particular took me a long time to get it right - with the colours and mixed mediums and all.

Note: ONLY ONE box per day, huh? Ouch...but in any case, if people like THIS box keep an eye out for my next one which is already finished. MGS1 in MGS2-style design to complete the PS1/PS2 trilogy, As for MGS4, well...I don't think I want it designed in PS2 box art. The PS3 cases are much better I think hehe.

CHEERS fellow vgboxartists!!!

Wonderful job here. But your reflection is a bit off, and the screenshots on the back would look better not beveled. Maybe just have some inner shadow instead. Great job nonetheless!

#6, I kinda like the beveled look.

But this is some sweet stuff Elixir. I agree on the color choices you used. Can't wait to see what you have in store. And we have the one box per day rule in order to allow everyone a decent amount of time up on the front page.

But again welcome! I'll be sure to keep a look out for your work.
