This is a little different than the usual project for most of us. I've grown tired of Gamestop's use of horrible and lazily created used game inserts. They're ugly, unprofessional, and overall unappealing, so I decided to challenge myself to do better (Well, I use the term "challenge" loosely)
This is the result. It's not a particular game, obviously, it's just the mock up for Gamestop's game insert for the PS2. I wanted to do all of the main systems, but I figure only the color and console information would really change (Even though I considered different designs for each.)
This was just a quick, fun project, I really don't think it's worth coming up with a proper presentation for it.
Would you guys mind justifying your statements? The rules are obviously vague on the subject, but how is this not a "video game box art?" If T-shirts and movies can be submitted, I don't see a problem with something like this.
I actually applaud you for this one, and as I am someone who buys a lot of used games, (especially older, obscure PS2 titles); I can also appreciate it's usefulness. Those insertless cases you get at Gamestop are the pits as you say, with those goofy googly eyed characters on them (why?) and some part-time employee's sloppy hand writing. Your design is clean and professional looking, which is more than I can say for the guy who got paid to design the actual inserts they use.
This is a perfectly functional and reasonable piece of graphic art Slyder, good job.
While its cool, why the hell would I print a Gamestop slip when I can print one of the million boxart covers for my games ya know. Great mock up though
An idea for this would be have iconic characters for each console. GameStop doesn't do this due to copywright issues, but you could do that. In this case, you could have characters like Jak and Daxter, Kratos from God of War, Yuna from Final Fantasy X, and so on.
As for what you have there, looks good. I would have opted for a PS2 control rather than a simplified image based on the NES controller.
I was a bit confused and thought this was some sort of joke. But I understand GameStop is a store in the USA that specialise in video games. Its quite an odd choice to upload it to the main site but it's a nice idea noneoftheless. Well made, looks nice yet simple. I cant really think of any criticisms so yeah... its good.
#4, Also for that comment, you can justify Movies as BOXART and as for T Shirts I have not seen any except in the forum however this is not exactly BOX ART. Just a plain colored slip.
I'm surprised this has garnered so much controversy and attention. I didn't think anyone could care, let alone resent the fact that it was uploaded.
I know it's a grey area, but it's a cover for games. There's not really any question as to whether or not it belongs here or in the forums, it's acceptable here even if you disagree with it.
Also, every cover I make gets uploaded to my account. Unless it's a WIP, it's asinine to post a game cover or insert in the forums when the website is designed for just that.
Regardless, I support and encourage your opinions on the subject and the box itself.
#9, I wanted to make it somewhat realistic in the sense that it could hypothetically be used in-store. My goal was to make a professional, feasible insert as a replacement for the store's current one. As for the controller, I was somewhat torn. I didn't know if I wanted all the systems to share the same imagery with different colors, or what. I might go change things up and replace the controller with the proper one, it would certainly help add visual identification to it.
#13, it's not just a colored slip, effort and thought went into it, which is the principal behind everything we do here. Every box here is just "colored slips with pictures."
#15, That was my take on what you were doing as well. The characters idea was more of a suggestion, but I definitely feel that some imagery that helps to distinguish the console that the slip represents would give it some identity.
I feel that this is completely acceptable, just not something we see too much of here.
#17, I didn't fav it. In this iteration, I won't fav it, it needs improvement. I don't fav based on who did it, but rather the skill and thought that went into something.
There are a lot of users out there that will favorite anything, but for you to imply that none of the users who appreciate this have the integrity to discriminate in their choice of boxes is like spitting in the face of everyone here.
Not to mention the fact that this box actually has effort put into, something that a lot of newer users don't really do.
#19, I dont mean that it's bad, but if someone less ranked than you would do this it'd be flames for "no effort" and stuffs
Sure, those who have faved it likes it, but if a lower ranker would post this, these ppl would (I think) not like it as much.
#20, I agree, even tho I dont think this fits in the Hof either. (which it's not)
#24, I think the favorites are due to the concept more so than the product itself. The design is simplistic and was relatively easy to make, but I think more people are willing to applaud the idea of a replacement for the Gamestop inserts.
I also think a few people appreciate the idea of doing something unique, instead of just another RE5 box.
#15 Hey slider, how about you DO make a lime green one with an XBox controller, or a Red one with a PS3 controller and print them out? sure would be fantastic.

Kinda cool, but if it had been some 2-ranker, this'd be hated.

#7, I agree, the respect people have for you has surpassed the stupidity of submitting this. Makes a lot more sense to have it in the forums.

#11, not only in the US, it's here in Sweden too.
Well, it's really much like GAME just that they're accepting DVDs (GAME don't here)

That's really not fair. You guys are saying if a low level posted something just like this, you wouldn't fav?

Something like this deserves to be in the Hall of Fame way more than that stupid "Fav" game
