Default Connecting an Xbox to a computer

So, Microsoft are bastards. They expect me to either fork out £69.99 for a wireless adaptor (which i've heard is very laggy) or have my Xbox and computer right next to each other, because the cable they supplied me is only about 1 metre long. Apparently you can buy a longer cable, but those are like what, £30? Anyways, I need help. Should I save up for the wireless adaptor, or buy a 20 metre cable to go from downstairs, all the way up the stairs, and into my room? The latter will probably result in a better connection, but it'll look untidy, it'll be dangerous to other people in the house, my door wont be able to full close if the cable goes through, and it would only be getting in the way. Oh, and don't say, "get a router, and put it in your bedroom", well, the thing is, I don't have any plugs in my bedroom for one of those cables to fit into, let alone any spare plug sockets at all. What should I do?

I do the long cable thing, unfortunately. It is dangerous, but you just tell everyone to watch their step. Something else you could do to improve safety is move the cable towards the wall and secure it with electrical tape.

Do you seriously think all the English call their mothers "Mum"? It's just a steriotype.

Also, he'll say pounds because that's the currency he knows.

I bought a Wireless Adapter thing and I think it works fine!! I rarely suffer from lag and when I do, its not major lag and it doesn't usually affect the game that bad. It may be expensive but I think its definately worth the price. Its good quality and looks nice just clipped on to the back. Easy to install and set up too! I bought mine for £59.99 from any Game shop but im sure if you look around the internet, you'll be able to pick it up cheaper.

Actually most British people do say "Mum" as that is the correct way of saying it in this country... and the proper way too until you Americans decided to change OUR language. I think Greg said "Mom" because maybe he just wanted to appeal to the mass American users on this site?

are you going to help or make ignorant comments? The british version of "mom" is "mum" but I hate the sound of the latter and both versions are used over here. Is it blasphemous towards my country to use one word instead of another? For all you know, I could've misspelled it, O and U are only two keys apart you know.

Haha. This is how I see it:

    YOU speak English.
WE speak American, which is the adaptation of English.

will you please stop going off topic? I'm itching to start playing Team Fortress II... (which reminds me, does that game require a save file or anything? I only have 2MB left on my MU, and HL2 alone takes up a whopping 20MB.)

I'm not too fond of the Xbox because of this reason. Would your family be okay with a cable going up the stairs?

    PSP Charging lead

what we do is run our Live cord through an outlet in the wall, bring it up to the ceiling, and then run it across the basement, down the wall and into the router. But when we had it upstairs, we just ran it through the wall, ceiling and to the Xbox.
not sure if you have that option but it's a suggestion.

We run it through the wall and down under the house over to the router. Works perfectly....that's how it's supposed to be done, through the walls, etc. It's an internet connection like any other. I prefer it to wireless too...wireless is too unreliable where I live.

I've heard most wireless adapters work with the 360 just find a cheap (but good one) somewhere.

I dont think thats true actually. I heard only the official Microsoft one will work.

I still suggest buying the wireless adapater. Okay its expensive but its alot easier and wire-free!! Its simple to set up like I said and i've never had any problems with it. My connection is usually always lag-free (although that could be because I have a good connection where I live, near the city.)

ah, some guy on MSN. i think he was from this site, called StalkerUK36 something idk. I doubt he's reliable, his grammar was like, pre-school stuff... ignore that, then. I'll try and find a cheap one off ebay.

Yeah... I mean, I have a wireless adapter and it runs fine, I hardly have any trouble with Live. I keep my Xbox in my basement (my router is in my dad's office on the next floor up) and I have a great connection.

It's definitely worth the investment, I'd say.

yeah, well it better be. people have been bugging me for my Live "addy" for months now and I want them to shut the fuck up, and while i'm at it pwn their assholes at Gears (i'm ok at it, but all they ever do is brag about how 1337 they are because they got a headshot, i seriously doubt they're that good) you'd kick my ass though. I always tell myself to save up for it but i always end up buying some PS2 game that I only half-want, play it for two weeks and never touch it again =/

No not like that. Flash means to hack the 360's firmware to play illegal copies of games... XD It's true loll
