The fact that you look at it for "the art" and the "substance and depth" only makes you shallow.
Nothing you just said makes any sense.

Substance and depth means emotion and meaning. It's the difference between "I Gotta Feelin" and "Hey Jude". Music is poetry put to sound waves. I'm a music critic and I get enjoyment from explaining why I think things are good and bad. I know convincing people of my personal taste is pointless but there is an objective side to music that is undeniable, that is what I criticise.

What the hell does this even mean? The only thing "backwards ass" is that sentence itself. Nothing I'm explaining has anything to do with "artsy fartsy" "philosophy" or "gimmickry". My critique is that music should be one (or several, collaborating) artists putting poetry to sound waves in an intimate expression of something. No, not everything has to be the musical equivalent of Citizen Kane.. the musical equivalent of Terminator 2, E.T. and Superbad are great in their own right and I'm not criticising anyone for liking something I don't. What I'm criticising is attitudes if you would read anything I wrote. Magical and I digressed, but my original point was that those who only watch one style for stupid reasons should really change their attitude and open their eyes.

Oh and the award for the most retarded thing of the week goes to:

Words can't describe, man.... words can't describe....

You're just as dogmatic with your opinions as I am so don't be a hypocrite.

Inb4 you say "Oh I'm just joking when I say 'Fallout 3 is mediocre' and treat it like a fact". You can't completely act one way and then "make up for it" by a joke at the end, like bashing the fuck out of Fallout 3 and saying "but if you like it that's cool". It's fucking insulting... like pacifying someone who just overheard you call them an "asshole". Either stand strong with your convictions or don't, don't take that pitiful middle ground.

It's called showmanship, chap. If you ever payed attention in our chats I made it pretty clear that the Fallout 3 thing was a joke and I never followed it up with a "if you like it, it's cool". So your inb4 is unneeded.

I don't shove my opinions down anyone's throats. If you get that impression, it's your own fault. I just convey them blunt and simple, I never specify that you have to follow it to the ends of the earth and when I do I just joke about it.

Blinded by Light is the greatest battle theme I've ever listened to in any game. Absolute brilliance.

I don't shove any of my opinions down anyone's throat either. I'm not arguing that the artists I like are better, I'm arguing that many peoples lack of their own individual taste superseding what they hear on the charts or "what's cool" is what's wrong with music.

Basically: Don't just listen to Adele, Katy Perry Lady Gaga because you heard it on the radio, go out of your way to find something that calls to you because you will find it and it will be oh so worth it.

That's the point, these things are made to appeal just enough to majority of people, not to be an artistic or emotional expression. People should seek out movies and music that appeal to them personally, not just go with whatever's advertised and looks pretty cool.

It's got nothing to do with what you like it's got to do with why you like it. Do you like it because it's on the charts and it's "pretty cool" or because it speaks to you and is a work of masterpiece in your eyes? The former is stupid, the latter is artistic appreciation. That's what enjoying music should be.. artistic appreciation.
I like it because I like the actual music itself and it speaks to me. Charts are just a method for discovering certain artists to me.

You made me laugh at first. You know NOTHING about her music then. Every song she writes and sings and full of meaning an depth. Shes not a Britney Spears or a Rihanna or a Katy Perry. Shes an artist and she puts 100% in everything she does.

This. I'm not a huge fan, but I can see she's pretty legit.

I don't listen to her much but her lyrics are pretty meaningful for an average pop star.

I agree with Kyle, I know so many people who only listen to charts music because it's popular, and the moment it becomes any older than last year, they disown it, therefore completely negating the point of music. Music is an incredibly emotional and potent substance, that should never be disregarded. It's the same with films.
