Thread: Metal Gear Solid 4 WIP

Default Metal Gear Solid 4 WIP

    Hey guys,

Here is the second box I've ever done. This is pretty early, I've only spent a couple hours on it. I wanted to try something a bit different, but I'm not sure if I succeeded. I still I have a lot of work to do, as well as creating a back (which I will start work on soon). I got the brushes from dA (I'll find the people who created them and credit when I post the final version) and I got some of those logos (will get the credit for that as well).

I'd really appreciate some constructive criticisms, what I've done right, what needs fixing, etc.

    Thanks guys.

    Here it is:

That's excellent! I think a few characters added should do the trick.

My friend, that is actually from an official wallpaper that Konami released a couple of days ago. I love this image.

    Already? I didn't realize that.

Well, here's the *start* of a back cover. This is just... general layout more than anything, nowhere near completion... thoughts?

    It's looking awesome.
All I can say is make his one of his arms/legs overlap the image strips for a nice effect.

What would you suggest instead? I'm open to changing it.

im not really sure. i have a mgs4 box that i almost finished, and the borders were a problem for me too. soo i really dont know what you could do, but i think you should divide the screens up.

and for the back..i just see it being somewhat simple, and kinda vector images. that's how i picture it being, and i think it would look better with the front image you've used.

i know your just donig a layout pretty much, but try and make sure that all your images blend together, so adjust contrast and brightness and things to make everything flow better.

Done a bit more work. Obviously, it's still way from completion...

    Is this better or worse?

And yeah... I just noticed I spelled 'annihilation' wrong... I'll fix that.

    Cool

Looking good so far --- hopefully you'll make the description on back more readable.. white on grey bits makes hard reading. I thought you would have used the front black 'feather-like' pattern for the back instead of blood splatter/brown rip pattern.
I actually liked the barbed-wire screen borders before, but not in red. oh well.

There is something I'm interested in.. and what's your template going to be --- a normal PS3 box?? I'm asking because, when you fit it into a template box, some of the stuff might be hidden by logos, legal text, and all that crap.

OH... although the new snake pic is nice... I think he looks like he's stuck in a chimney of something and trying to pull himself out! LOL --- Looks like I'll have to do a MGS4 box with bog-standard images

I'll be honest, somethings need work before you post.

First of all proportions are totally off. For the front cover, when you have such a massive image, you're bound to have a bigger ESRB, dev and publisher logos. ATM, they are tiny!

Also nudge up the main logo a bit.

I don't like the excessive re grunge you've added to the updated back cover - it looks too messy. I liked the older version of the back cover better.

I'd suggest get rid of the top row of screens, align the tagline on the left as a paragraph. Synopsis text should be below it (which it is also now, so its fine).

Make the screenshots bigger - you are making a massive cover with screens the size of thumbnails. People would have to squint and see them!
Again a proportion problem, but can easily be fixed.

Darken the lower part of the back cover (below second row of screens), and fade snake's legs a bit. Then you just need to type in the legal info text (you can use my MGS4 box for reference to figure out the proportion of logos and text as well as know exactly what to type.)

This will take kinda long, but its worth it. For logos - Dolby digital can be found from the "simple needs" thread, Blu-ray from wikipedia, Kojima pro would need to be rendered. (but you've already got that seeing the front cover)

You can extract my player bars, warning seisure, M-rated and barcode from the image above.

Hope this helps ...I'm kinda passionate about the detail of MGS covers, so I gave you so much help.

Wooh... that's what you call 'Critique'.. LOL
I don't think I'll post a MGS4 WIP if I make one... DMS will have a list longer than MR. Tickle's arm! - LOL
