Started playing Bloodborne. I barely made any progress yet, but I did die at least 20 times already. This game is worse than Dark Souls lol

I've heard that quite often. So I was wondering if people who don't know anything about the Nier/Drakengard franchise (like me) can enjoy that game.

I'm not familiar with the series either. I primed myself with Clemp's Nier Analysis videos (I'd link, but mobile) and waded straight in. It doesn't directly reference the events of Nier, but you'd get a better understanding of the terms they use if you watch the videos. But the story for me is the best I've experienced in years, and it's got that Platinum action combat.

I sound like a shill, but I seriously enjoyed my time with it, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has 50+ hours to spare.

I believe it doesn't matter if you played the games or not. I think Nier Automata follows it's own story, making little to no references to the first game or to the Drakengard franchise.

In the first Nier, close to finishing it, I remember the villain explaining how the world of Nier came to be, and that's when they reference the first Drakengard game. Aside from that, I don't remember any other part of that game referencing the Drakengard series, so I believe the same could be for Nier Automata

Not to mention the Nier storyline is weird as hell, so I'd not even bother about that if I were you.

This is true but if you play any drakengard / nier game without attempting to go for at least the core 5 endings, you're just doing yourself a disservice. Like those games are directed in such a way that the game doesn't even REALLY start till like playthrough 3 anyway, and you'll be missing out on a lot of lore/plot explanation if you only do one playthrough.

I've just started my Ending C playthrough, and it seems to take place after Ending B, so this seems like the second half of the game rather than an alternate ending.

All endings after Ending A begins after either Ending A or B.

Be careful as the Ending D deletes your save. You'll get it after getting the ending, it's one of those "4th wall experiences" some games have

Didn't know this was a thing with Drakengard too. I'd play the PS2 games, but since I don't have a PS3 i rather not

What, in Automata? I knew the original NeiR did but Automata does too?

I can't confirm yet but I def heard Automata does it too yes.
But uh, I'm just gonna go ahead and say that you guys should probably not be talking about the mechanics of how Ending D works in Automata without spoiler tags.

Honestly, if you've already missed the boat on Drakengard 1 & 2, they are not worth going back to. Mechanically they play very poorly, and story wise that first game gets pretty edgy without real good reason. Drakengard 3 is prob the only one worth going back to (and thankfully is a prequel so you don't even have to worry about playing 2 & 3)
