It's not so much the controls themselves, the button layout, but how it controls. Clunky is an apt description.

Small but frequent occurrences, like Martston's refusal to climb objects without being perfectly aligned, or his inability to walk through narrow entryways. The dead-eye mechanic can be unresponsive and random on occasion as well, and I shouldn't even have to mention how unnecessary it is to constantly tap X to run.

I may have misspoke, loosely throwing around the term "atrocious", but I do think the controls could be vastly improved.

I play games sometimes just because everyone else likes them, to try to figure out what's so good about them.
You don't have to break "i think this game is good" into a fucking science, you know.

I like the layout, but it takes getting used to. I wasn't keen at first, but eventually I grew to like the heavy feel, it really felt as if you were in control of a grizzled cowboy.
I'm sure there is a way of altering the control layout.

You're most likely right. I think I was just coming off a bit of frustration from my last play experience. Marston's slow awkwardness becomes really obvious when you're fighting bears and cougars. Usually one hit is a guaranteed death as the man takes such an absurdly long time to get up, and the predator in question can circle around for the kill before I can get moving again.

I'm honestly just nitpicking here. The game is good.

I agree, when the action heats up it does get frustrating.

    Yeah, it's just you.
Just kidding, out of the 3 of my mates that bought RDR, only 1 of them enjoyed it and kept it, the other 2 traded it in. It's probably a game that only really clicks with certain people.

You're not alone there. I finished the original game a year or two ago and thought it was really quite good, which should be pretty clear since I'm playing it again now. It's not the masterpiece it's praised as (what is, though?), but Rockstar tends to have that effect.

I absolutely loved Red Dead Redemption. I really enjoyed the storyline and just the amount of things you can do, like the challenges, treasure hunting, etc.

Couldn't last more than 2 hours with Red Dead Redemption, way too much to do, felt like I wasn't progressing very much at all.

It's a prime example of "old-school" extreme difficulty gone tragically wrong. The game actually comes off as pretty flawed in general.

Vindictus Online. It's not so bad. The combat system is very fun. Also I ran into a guy who dyed his cloak green, and everytime he swung his weapon a soundboard of Link went off.

Emulating Metroid since I've got my PS3 controller working with my PC again. I've never played it before and it's quite awesome. When I'm finished, what other NES classics should I play?

Currently alternating my time between Playing Uncharted 3, and Final Fantasy XIII. Both games offer a variety, which I am enjoying. Also, I hated Red Dead Redemption. No idea why, I just never liked the game.

I enjoyed RDR, but looking back, I don't know why. The characters only irritated me (which is odd because Rockstar always nail humorous, quirky characters,) the controls were clunky (I was seriously disappointed in the lasso) and the story didn't appeal to me until act III.

Anyway, I'm working my way through Max Payne 3, which I recently bought because Game of Thrones (DVD) was out of stock. It's alright, I guess.
Only courage in the face of doubt will lead one to the answer.

I've started a fresh, fully modded game of Oblivion. I've also replaced the soundtrack with the scores from Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer. And it sounds great.

Resistance 3. It's actually pretty good.
