Default (YoshiStar) Paper Mario U Screenshot

Hey guys. So I was looking at the Paper Mario: Sticker Star artwork, and I loved how it was paper ... but it was like, more realistic paper. It gave me the inspiration to make a fake screenshot for a Paper Mario Wii U game (with a beta name of Paper Mario U). This is what I came up with:

    FULL SIZE

Nice, HD, sexy Paper Mario. What do you guys think?

Damn good stuff. Now I feel self-conscious about the way I tried making renders like that with my Paper Mario: Sticker Star box, compared to yours it looks bad :P but it looks great!

Here are screenshots from some other Paper Mario games for comparison:

As you can see, they went for a very 2D style, while I tried to bring out more of the third dimension with the textures and all. This is my vision of Paper Mario on a newer generation HD console.

The lack of textures on Mario's skin looks odd compared to the other characters, but otherwise this looks really good. A Paper Mario game that places more creative emphasis on the style it's based on, not unlike Kirby's Epic Yarn, is what I've always wanted from the series. Aside from everything being flat, the games have never looked like they're actually made of paper.

Yeah, that's exactly the idea! The texture is less visible on brighter parts of the characters, so it's harder to see it on Mario's skin.

I didn't take brighter lighting into account. With that, I can't see any other flaws. Again, nice work.

Now I can only anticipate disappointment when the next Paper Mario looks nothing like this.

If you're looking for "realism", try the Crytek method of putting an endless strew of shaders, HDR and SSAO in everything. Apparently the more visible shaders there are the better.
[In all seriousness though, it looks great, perhaps have more visible shadowing behind/infront of the characters?]
