Thread: Devil May Cry 5: The Tale Of Sparda

  1. #1

Default Devil May Cry 5: The Tale Of Sparda

Though I've completed the cover artwork box about few hours ago, BUT it's still under progression because I still do feel that there are some of the things that I need to actually touch up and some part of it aren't satisfied enough. Here I am, would like to show you the cover artwork box about "Devil May Cry 5: The Tale Of Sparda" from one of the biggest DMC fans.

I am in need of suggestions, opinions and some tips from great professional designers like yourself.

Which part of the cover artwork box that I need to actually touch up, revamp, change, etc? Plus, do you have any better ideas about the title of the game itself?

NOTE: As you can see the girl at the back cover page, she is "Stella", one of the characters from Final Fantasy Versus 13 and I initially took her as "Eva" in the first place simply because I couldn't find an actual picture of Eva somewhere around in the internet.

Hmm, a story about Sparda meeting Eva would be kinda interesting (as it's hinted she's an Umbra Witch in Bayonetta) so I can imagine both them kicking demonic ass.

Although the title is misleading. When you hear about the tale of Sparda, you hear about how he rebelled against the demonic army. That's the main thing, him falling in love pretty much the epilogue. A better title I think would be "Devil May Cry: A Witches Love" or something similar.

Remember, Trish is an exact copy of Eva (bar clothing) and there's at least one high-res picture of her from DMC 4. That could work to your advantage.

Stuff like this is pretty difficult as the only material available is low res ones from the original DMC, or the Sparda costumes. I compensated by using material from other games (sorry for advertising, but I think it'll help you).

As it stands, the cover needs a little work. The logo is very stretched on the spine and the front is too dark to make out. It's a good first though. Keep at it! If you need any help, just ask and I'll see what I can do.

Thank you so much for the feedback AgentLampshade, I really appreciate it. Eh really? But does Bayonetta universe has something relation to do with Devil May Cry universe? On a side note, I haven't played Bayonetta once before. Is it one of the recommended games for action/horror games?

Hmm. Yes, that's so true. But wouldn't that storyline suppose to be during Sparda's era which he was rebelling against the demonic army? I mean according to Devil may Cry's storyline, it's been told about the story of the Legendary Knight Sparda, was having a decisive battle against Mundus's demonic army especially during the prologue scene of the DMC1 game. "Two millennium ago there is a war between the human world and the other: the Underworld. But somebody from the underworld wakened to justice and confronted against his leader alone."

Yes, I'm really in need of some help over my cover artwork box above here. Speaking about my cover artwork box, actually I would like to put up some ideas that I've got and add some "Victorian era", "vintage", "classic", "historical", "Roman-ish", "gentleman", "romantic", "legendary warrior" as well as those vintages kind of things that had during the Victorian period kind of themes simply because Sparda and Eva were born during far away back before DMC3: Dante's Awakening and living with a demonic around the city that Sparda and Eva were living during the Victorian era. These are the examples of the pictures that we could feel the elements of "Victorian era" and other vintages kind of themes.

Ah damn! I would have thought of that. I'll try to replace Stella with Trish in a high-resolution picture of it. What say you AgentLampshade?

It's not directly related, but there's a lot of in-jokes and references to DMC in Bayonetta, such as one character who has a relationship with Trish, the Eva thing and Enzo's involvement. It's made by Hideki Kamiya too, so I like to think they're related. The game is really good if you're into hack'n'slash games (like DMC) but don't try to follow the story on your first playthrough. It's crazy.

I've always imagined this as Sparda flitting back and forth between the (at the time) primitive human realm and the demon realm. After it was over, Sparda spent 2000 years in the human realm, in human form. At one time he even ruled the realm. Then eventually he met Eva and begat twin sons, you know the rest.

Fun fact: I once tried my hand at attempting to reboot the franchise and had settled on setting it in the Georgian era, with demons feasting on the remains of British soldiers. It was pretty cool.

Yeah, I get the tone you're looking for. With the love theme and the Victorian/Georgian setting, might I suggest giving it a book-like design? Something similar to these I think would work quite well. It would be very difficult to implement though. If you're looking for a more conventional cover, I can give you this image of Sparda (rendered by .:*Dante*:., please give credit to him if you're going to use it.) I could also try my hand at making some screenshots if you want.

Dang! seriously? I've heard from many of my friends saying that Bayonetta is actually a very cool game where you feels like as if you're playing another Devil may Cry game. I might gonna buy that game too.

    Lol yup I know. :P

Oh really? What's the title of the fanfiction of yours you came up with? If you don't mind telling me.

Thank you so much for giving me the awesome book-like design links AgentLampshade, I really appreciate it. I love those designs! Now I've just done revamping all the layouts and everything. However, I'm getting stuck on the back cover session which my mind can't even think of anything about what are the best pictures and concepts I would like to put up on the back cover box. The front cover seems....A kind of vintage + dark gothic + bloody themes with a Romanian number of 5. Screenshots? sure, not a problem though but I put up some empty pictures with "Screenshot" word on it so that you'll be able to see whether or not the concepts of the sccrenshots on the back cover box are good enough. All in all, here's my update cover artwork box of it. I am seriously ran out of ideas already. Lol.

Optimistically speaking, I really do hope that you will like the front cover box that I've made recently. If its otherwise, you are very welcome to express your own ideas about changing which part of the layouts or pictures that I really need to change them. Can't wait for your reply! ^^

And I love the "Jackpot!!!" word down there of yours. Lol. How do you do that?

It wasn't really a fan-fiction, more of a half-assed unfinished essay detailing basic game elements, character changes, weapon designs (I never got around to actually sketching them out, it was a VERY basic) and tones and theme ideas. I think I just settled on calling it "The Devil May Cry." It was made with an idea that I could successfully propose a better reboot than Ninja Theory's one. I probably could if I set my mind to it. It wouldn't be very difficult.

Box is looking good, I love the black and red colour scheme, it goes well with Eva. Though I'd suggest making "The Tale of Sparda" purple, as it is his primary colour. And don't sweat it. Back covers really are a pain to get right. Some people have mastered it, I suggest checking out Majidblack's backs, Devidas' backs and Hesit8's backs to get some inspiration. I usually find the typography much easier if you do that last and place renders first.

It's really shaping up nicely though. Just take a look at some of the boxes I linked and you'll find your feet at making backs. It is (in my opinion) the toughest part of making boxes.

Ah I see. No doubt you had some really good ideas in there. Or perhaps you should write the whole story of it base off from your creativity and ideas. I'm sure it's going to be amusing and fun by reading some fan-fiction stories! I actually love reading fan-fiction stories because it's like you are making a fan-fiction as a way to express your wish for a new Devil May Cry game in the future.

Thank you so much for the compliment AgentLampshade, I really appreciate it. Hmmmm...yeah, you are right. I should have change the outer glow for "The Tale of Sparda" into purple color because purple is Sparda's primary color. That's true. I couldn't agree with you more. When everytime I'm working on the back cover part of it, its seriously such a pain in the ass I gotta tell you that. Lol. Hey thanks!! Dang! they really have learned a lot about the arts of the covers! It really does gives me some inspiration too. Alright sure, I'll do my very best to make it look more awesome than it use to be.

Thanks once again AgentLampshade! Oh yeah by the way, please do spare your time to look over this link. I just created a new page for my Devil May Cry 5: The Tale of Sparda in Game Ideas WIKI but its still under development. Check it out! And please do comment about it too. http://gameideas.wikia.com/wiki/Devi...parda?&cb=6026 If you do have any questions about it, don't hesitate to ask me. JACKPOT!!!

I'm no good at writing stories, I never get pacing correctly or screw up some characters and I generally lack the attention span. A comic may be awesome to try, but I have too little spare time for that right now.

I look forward to the box update. Baul and Modeus, I like their inclusion. If there's one thing I was disappointed with in the animé, it was that the swordsmen trained by Sparda were cut down almost effortlessly by Dante. I know Dante is...well, Dante, but a little challenge would be welcome. This is why DMC lost popularity.

Because I don't like this website's repugnant ranking system. Like I said above, if you want to see my work, there are other places.

It's to bad you decided to leave VGBA I don't care about the ranking system either, but I do like the wesbite in general so that's what keeps me going. anyway, good luck with your future projects

Now here's my updated version of Devil May Cry 5: The Tale of Sparda cover artwork box that I've just done few hours ago. Apparently, there are two cover artwork boxes that I'm going to post them here. Here come's the first and the second one.

    1.

    2.

On a side note, currently I'm in a midst of thinking what to write for the synopsis of the story. But I created up my own page on Game Ideas Wiki website yesterday which is still under development and add up some details about my fan-made of Devil may Cry 5: The Tale of Sparda. Please do spare some time to look over the website which I'm going to give you guys the link right now.

    Link: http://gameideas.wikia.com/wiki/Devi...Tale_Of_Sparda

If you do have any questions, suggestions, comments or opinions about my fan-made link and the cover artwork boxes above, please do not hesitate to do any one of the followings that I've mention earlier. I'm really looking forward for your replies as well. JACKPOT!!!

@AgentLampshade- I couldn't agree with you more about Baul & Modeus. DMC has lost it's popularity is also because of the lack of appearances of Trish and Lady in DMC4. Trish and Lady doesn't play as an important role in DMC4 for example like "Hi and Bye" kind of conversation. Plus, Capcom doesn't even explain who the heck is Nero, how did Nero got his devil arm, from where did Nero got his devil arm, and other mystery questions and unrevealed answers. And they reboot the whole DmC storyline eventually. Boo! Lol. By the way AgentLampshade, please do comment about the upgraded version of my cover artwork boxes and my new page for DMC5: The Tale of Sparda on Game Ideas Wiki website link above there. Which cover artwork box is the nicest one? The first one or the second one?

I prefer the top one, just make the subtitle purple. Where did you get the screenshot of Sparda transforming (the middle one on the bottom design?) Also, who's Dj Runga? It's probably a good idea to use your username on the presentation so people don't think you stole it.

Capcom are just at war with logic lately. They half-ass their franchises then act surprised at how badly it's received (case in point - DMC4, they rehashed levels, bosses and completely ignored some story elements) and after it's all said and done, send them off to mediocre western developers to butcher the franchise even more. Hire me Capcom! I have ideas!

Thank you so much for the compliment of yours AgentLampshade, I really appreciate it so much! It takes me about 5-6 hours to actually think about the concept layouts of the pictures especially on the back cover. I get the screenshot of Sparda transforming from this website "http://blog.naver.com/PostView.nhn?blogId=mp0516&logNo=150102974735". I was searching through the google image for finding any better Sparda picture and I suddenly found that picture and I was like WOW! when does that scene appears in any Devil May Cry games? Lol. Dj Runga? Neah man, it's actually Dj Runza and that's my nickname. In fact, I had another artwork for my own Castlevania artwork which is still under progression as well. Have you played Castlevania games before?

Exactly, honestly speaking, I could see that Capcom is seriously going down nowadays due to the fact of the cancellation of Megaman Legends 3, DmC reboot and fans becoming such an outrage over what Capcom has done to the fans. Lol! Perhaps you could voice out your own opinions, ideas and suggestions to Capcom via email or something. Let Capcom hear the fans! Unfortunately, Capcom doesn't even wanna hear their fans eventually though. *Sigh* By the way, have you clicked on the link above there? About the game ideas wiki of mine.
