Will you pay us for the fan art we have to create for a game we're not fans of that can't garauntee us a reward?
What is this I don't even- Words can not describe how dumb this is.
No one's gonna work for him if he doesn't want to give credit, and that's kinda a big deal when you work in the industry. I should know, I worked in it for a time. Why does he need to improve? Are you kidding me? Why the hell would you think he shouldn't have to. And needless criticizing? Really? Telling him what's wrong with his very flawed business practices is needless, especially when within a matter of seconds he managed to turn off an entire forum when pitching an idea, mind you this being the most important step in his field, is needless? You honestly see nothing wrong with that? 'Cause if you don't, I feel sorry for you. I really do.
Last I will say on this topic since it's taking us off topic.
All he asked in this thread was if anyone was interested in making some fanart for a game for fun. I don't see how any "business practices" were involved in any of this. And the reason I said he doesn't need to improve is because there is no reason to. He was seeing if anyone was interested in making fanart. And he full on acknowledged that he would try his best to give credit but that he can't make any promises. It would be similar to if I was asking for someone to make me a logo. I don't have to give them credit if I don't want to. And if that's a problem for the artist then they can choose to not make the work. You guys get hostile and stir up needless criticsm too much and it reflects bad on our community.
You did nothing wrong gamedanger100. I'm glad you felt that you could take your idea to us and get some support.
The only thing that bothers me about this whole thing is the word "fanart" being used. Fan art is art made by, well, fans. The people you're asking this of aren't fans. They've never even heard of the game. What you're asking for is art, not fanart.
Yeah, that's not how this works. We're giving him proper criticism for something. Stop pretending it's your stupid white knight shit. He came here, on the internet to tell us to do free things for him. We gave him sound criticism that no that is not how this works.
He came here asking for fanart for a game without any credit and expected us to go ahead with it. Are you aware how insulting that is? No seriously, He came in expecting us to make "fan" art for a game that doesn't exist and we aren't fans of. For free. That's a commission friend, commissions are payed. Let's not forget the amoralness of making "fan" art to attract more "fans". The principle is "you don't have to do it" here, the principle is that he EXPECTED us to go ahead with this.
Also this is the internet, we can be as big dicks here as possible when it comes to stupid plans like this.
So you have no idea what you're talking about so can you please just shut up? It's an amazing practice, shuting up about things you know nothing about. Instead of blindly white knighting/kissing reed's ass(how you got to be mod in the first place with) you can do that, it'll save everyone the trouble of losing brain cells over stupid shit like this.
P.S. I know you edited your post because before that edit you were kissing up to me, nice.

You may call it "white knighting" but I still feel that people should make an effort to express their feelings in a less hostile and more up building way. You can state your opinion without being a dick. And I dont understand the "shutting up about things I have no idea about"? What don't I know?
I see that you are back to insulting and this will be the last time I warn you that it is not acceptable.
P.S Which post are you referring to that I edited? Because I havent edited any posts in this thread.
...
Are you shitting me right now?
Not a single person is being hostile, we've all been explaining what's wrong with his idea. YOU are the only one with a problem here.
Pretty much ANYTHING about the industry. Requested fanart by people who aren't fans is a commission, which almost always requires pay or some form of credit. If he doesn't offer either of these things, he's not gonna get jack out of people. And where as we're trying to tell him why this is a problem, YOU are telling him that it's not a problem, and THANKING him for not offering anything for our work. You are actually making the problem WORSE.
These were what I was referring to.
Maybe hostile was too strong of a word, maybe demeaning would be better. All I'm asking is for us to make an effort to be a little more encouraging. We don't have to be perfect, I agree it is just the Internet. But let's try to not be too insulting in our criticisms. We don't want to drive anyone away.
I actually agree with stevencho. Looking back, gamedanger said everything that needed to be said. Think of it like he's asking for a favor rather than wanting to become some kind of business partner. It's his game and he wants fanart for it. Sure, logically fanart happens afterwards, so we should let him know in a way that isn't like "WTF is wrong with you?". Sure you can be jerks on the internet. You can be jerks in real life too and no one is stopping you. But why do you want to be?
