So, recently Sony registered a new website, for what is most likely going to be a game titled "Forsaken Souls".

That's what I'm guessing. I wouldn't be surprised to see this be a Vita title.

It would be unfortunate as a console player, but a game based in one of the best franchises on the PS3 being developed for the Vita would definitely help them sell some units.

Why would that be awful? While obviously I'd prefer a console version, a portable Souls game, if handled correctly, would be awesome.

That's the thing though...it would be incredibly hard to handle correctly. It would be way too awkward to play properly.

Have you gotten a chance to play the Vita yet? I don't mean a short demo; playing the system extensively and getting familiar with all the nuances of the control layout. The control scheme and gameplay mechanics of a Souls game would not translate well to a handheld, period. In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if this is coming out for the Vita...I'm just dearly hoping it atleast get released on the PS3 as well. Who knows if it even is a Souls sequel, though :/

I've actually never played a Vita before, demo or not. I suppose I just imagine that, since it has a dual-stick layout, third-person action games like Souls would translate better to Vita than say, 3DS or PSP. I suppose I should probably see for myself.

If this actually is a Souls game, I'd have faith in it if From were in charge of development.
