Thread: The Dark Knight Rises (UK DVD Box)

Default The Dark Knight Rises (UK DVD Box)

Hey all, this is my first real cover that I've sat down and focused on. I'm super hyped for The Dark Knight Rises so I decided to make a cover for it.

(Download or open image in new window/tab to see full size).

First off, this is heavily inspired by the UK DVD cases for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Both feature the same style of title and character positioning that I have on the front, back and spines of this case/cover. As it's my first case I tried to adhere to these design aspects in order to make it look believable. I made a slight change to this layout by making Batman slightly larger in size than he appears on the BB and TDK cases as it's his final appearance and I felt increasing his size on the cover pushed the idea of this being his final fight further. Like the BB and TDK covers, the cover is absent of any character but Batman.

The official logos for the film seen on the front and the spine were found in the resources area of the site, and everything else I acquired through Google Images. The DVD information boxes (BBFC rating, Information, copyright info ect.) were created from scratch, as well as the synopsis and Special Features box. Special credit must go to this amazing fan-made poster, which I used for the credits text on the back and edited for the "A Christopher Nolan Film" at the front. http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/20..._s-d4pehop.jpg

I tried to match closely the almost black and white artwork we've seen from the official posters here - http://www.google.co.uk/url?source=i...621OPWlautkmXA - and here - http://www.google.co.uk/url?source=i...U_mC9F3kKbp0XQ, capturing that snowy effect, the deep contrasts and the slight blueish tint to the images.

I think I haven't done the perspective quite right on the front cover but you can see it clearly enough for now. Please leave any critiques you have and thanks for reading/viewing!

Also more detailed views of the front and back.

Front before changing the colours to match official artwork:

(Just realised I missed the Dolby symbol at the bottom here, will fix that!)

Looking pretty great so far, I feel that the front is missing something though.

I know what you mean, I initially had the Batwing in there but it looked too messy and cluttered.

Plus I was trying to capture that kind of emptiness seen on these covers:

I felt that the flames really added something when in full colour, like the TDK cover above, but I dialled them back to match the official desaturated artwork. Thanks again for the criticism and I totally get where you're coming from

I'd suggest to add some flying bats behind Batman to fill up the space, it looks nice so far.

This is brilliant so far, I agree with the others about the front though.

The logo could also be moved down some.

It's really good. The 3D could use some work though. I would be more than happy to try it for you when you are done of you wish!

The only issue with moving the logo down is it loses the matching look it has with the first two films' UK covers.
But again I can see why the composition looks empty.

Thanks again for the comments guys

    Thanks

I don't wanna use flying bats as it feels too close to Batman Begins' artwork, but I do want something to fill the space.

    Any ideas?
