I've been reading a lot of fantasy novels lately that talk about "Honor". Honor to your family, honor to your country, honor to yourself, honor to those that have come before you, honor to your friends. It's a big deal.
To have Honor, you must
- Keep your promises
- Treat those who are below your station with respect
- Treat your superiors with respect
- Remain loyal to family, friends, and country
- Do not lie, cheat, or steal
- Treat elders with kindness, and learn from them
- Do not kill, unless it is necessary to protect the others listed above
This is, of course, by no means an exhaustive list. But the failure to comply with any of those can result in the loss of your Honor as a person, meaning that:
- You may lose the respect of others
- You may lose rank, if you have any
- You may lose your ability to borrow money
- You may be killed
That being said, do you consider yourself to be an "Honorable" person? Is "Honor" important in your life? If so, to what extent and why? If not, why not? Do you believe that others have a focus on "Honor" in their daily lives? Do you believe that it is an outdated concept?
