Exclamation Shin Megami Tensei: New Generation Reincarnation (1st PS3 Boxart Attempt.)

    http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/20...nd-d4zbgan.png

So, recently I was able to get a copy of "SMT" Tokyo Revelation, and it got me remembering how much I wanted to have a nice clean rendition of the Tetragrammaton that they used in the original SNES/Super Famicom Shin Megami Tensei boxes. After I finished watching the movie, I decided to skim through it, to find the scenes where it appeared. After a little while of trying to get the best screen cap that I could (timing was a b!tch) I was able to get a clean shot. http://i.imgur.com/zBnZR.png

At least I thought it was at first, I decided that I would try my hand at vectoring it out, but I soon found that to be a much harder task for me at my current level. So, I grabbed my line tool and began reworking the circle from the ground up, each symbol/letter within the inner circle was done by either editing the font slightly, or making it from scratch entirely. The wording/symbols in the outer circle are just that, no real heavy work here, accept those small crosses I did those, and at first I couldn't get the font to wrap around the circle! XD

Overall the Tetragrammaton is still a bit rough, but I'm still really proud of it! Here's a link since I know you can't see all of it on the case as is http://i.imgur.com/VBKgl.png

    ----
The main idea behind this box is a remake of the original SMT launch titles (SMT, SMT...if, & SMT2) onto the PS3, seeing as the originals were SNES games this could be seen as almost impossible. But I figured with the rise of SMT: Imagine Online, almost all of the original Characters could be recreated using their database, this is actually my plan for creating screens for this box (Not sure if I'm going to be able to pull it off flawlessly, but I'm sure as hell gonna try! XD)

Onto the renders, each of which was a redone illustration of the main cast of the original SMT titles done by Kazuma Keneko. I have the scans on my computer but the image quality was slightly lower than what I wanted, so I went online and found these specific images on Megami Tensei Wiki . I know I still have to render out what little is left of the while around them, that wont take too long to fix. (Btw I've noticed that the tetragrammaton and the renders aren't fully centered I'll get on that after posting.)

The logo on the front was also done by me, again nothing special, just some altered font and a blurr/glow effect. Also the text on the back near STEVEN, is from the opening of SMT 1, where the Devil Summoning Program begins it's initiation/start-up.

    Templates:
Scorpion Soldier - I modified the header from a Greatest hits red to this gray finish for now, I will change it to fit the box at a later point
[Btw this was originally a Greates Hits PS3 Template that I downloaded from the resource section, but since I got it I can no longer find the original link on the main site. If anyone would be kind enough to help me find the original link to it I would be most greatfull I'd like to give credit where it's due.]

Looks great so far but I would recommend toning down the glow for the logo front and removing the text coming from the the left on the back.

Alright I'll see to toning down the glow on the title, and I'll think about removing teh text on the back, I kinda felt it was symbolic towards it roots, but to each their own.

If you are going to remove teh text then you should increase the opacity of the character.

    [minor update] http://www.deviantart.com/download/3...nd-d4zbgan.png

Alright so I increased his opacity, and rearranged where he and the text are. [Update - I changed the color of the font to try & match the case thus far.]
I also added a dropshadow to the tagline(s), and a gradient layer to the "DLC" box.
I made the new portion of the title curve underneath the characters on the cover, and added both parts of the title to the spine.
I'm not sure how I feel about the background I used on the back, it feels/looks nice, but I'd like some input.

If you are going to use a background on the back you should use one on the front aswell.

Alright I'll see to possibly getting a large enough background image that I can use for both the front and back.

I found a couple of good wallpapers, I had to edit them to fit the case, but overall I liked this one the best.
Although if you look at it, you can see it has a lot of distortion/pixelation because of the fact that I had to stretch it so far.
I'm going to get to work fixing all of the pixelation that I can for now, I'll also see if I can find a larger resolution version of the wallpaper I used, so that if I fit it to the case it won't cause so much distortion.

I also added a Jack Frost to the "DLC"

And for now the shadowed section on the spine is just to help me center the character in the wallpaper, and keep the title visible.

Here's another couple takes at the background, I've also completely rendered out the characters on the front, and again sorry the image had to be ridiculously stretched to fit the temp. Does anyone know of a lossless/semi-lossless way to extend images (beside vectoring).

    -Minor color alteration + Renders:

    -Background change

I actually decided to try and fix up the wall I made and found every demon/angel that was on it and rendered them out and placed them accordingly, although I think I messed up in a few small places. still I'm really glad that I was able to get the complete art works for this series back when MU was still around, it definitely made making the renders a lot easier, especially since the SMT Wiki didn't even have some of these on their site. lol

But even still, even after the work of rendering out those images and everything, I'm liking the second one a lot more. It might be because it's not as busy and "cluttered" and you can see everything clearly, I think I'm going to make my own wallpaper based on the one used in the second one, and see what I can do from there.

I also think I'm going to reduce the size of the "真・女神転生 + Shin Megami Tensei" portion of the title to about 50%, right now I think it's a little too big.

Please tell me what you guys think, this is still heavily in the development stages, so any help/advice is welcomed.

Alright it might take me a while to get back to working on this or any other box, since I just recently had my neighbors water heater break and start leaking in through my walls and ceiling, thanks for your understanding.
Hopefully this will all be resolved soon and I can get back to editing ASAP.

(Oh btw I decided to go with a design based on both cases, but with a color scheme more like the second case, although I'm going to make everything from scratch and make it a bit darker.)

Maybe you should make your own logo for this game with the Tetragramaton for the base.

Thanks for the input, I actually never would've thought about doing that; I was going for a similar look closer to the original cover

(btw for anyone who cares I've gotten my home situation back under control for the time being, I'll be back to editing soon.)

I like the first version's background over the second one, my only complaint is that the text in the logo is hard to read, maybe add a dropshadow to it like the text on the back.

I do like the wallpaper used as the background in the first one aswell, but sadly there isn't a version of this wall big enough to use, I had to stretch this one out a little too much and ended up with a blurry/pixelated mess.
If you know where I can find a larger version of it that would be awesome, it's from SMT's MMO: Imagine (It used to be owned by Aeria Games but it's now officially owned by Atlus.)

I've been looking into some destroyed City landscapes that I can use as a background to this instead, I could try to give it the same color scheme and keep the demon & angel renders aswell.

    Arrow Update

It's taken me too long to update this WIP, but here is my newest version
    http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/20...nd-d4zbgan.png

*New Title - Figured the one I used before was a mouth full. This one is based off of SMT 3 and Devil Summoner 1, each of them had an enhanced second edition titled Maniax version, which was harder and included a lot of bonus/extra/changed content.
*New Background +Demon/Angel Silhouette Renders - This was something that I had tucked away withing a bunch of Texture wallpapers I had on my HDD and even after resizing it it doesn't look half bad imo.
*New Tetragrammaton - I recently found a compilation of PS tips/tricks and I tried it out, and honestly I'm pleasantly surprised with how well it turned out.

The reason it's taken me soo long to do this is I just got some new Hardware and software for my PC, and it's taken me a while to get everything back up and running. I've had to reinstall my OS which almost completely wiped my backup drive for some reason, and so I've been trying to get back a lot of the data that corrupted in the process.

Anywho I hope that you like this update
