XBOX 720 doesn't even make sense, stop using it.

I disagree. I was inspired by the logic of Apple's new iPad, "The NEW iPad". This is basically just a NEW Xbox. Does there really need to be stupid names and numbers subtitling what we already know? I don't think so.

It looks like I'm the only person who feels this way, but I don't like it at all. It looks tacky and underwhelming and, most important, along the lines of a Chinese knock-off. That may sound a little harsh, but honestly, if Microsoft (or Sony) had anything even remotely close to this as a template for their game cases, it would really be an eye-sore on shelves. But, that's just my opinion.

To me, it's simply bland. I wouldn't use the word "minimalism" for it because it's nothing that stands out in a sea of monotony. I can see specifically why you decided to go the route you did with it... We're in a day and age where less equals more, but honestly, I just can't see this as being something that would feel official enough to be the face of a huge piece of life for people (seriously, look at how important gaming is to our culture these days...)

Again, I'm not saying it's bad. You definitely put in a lot of work, but like you mentioned, I could see those being on DLC cards and that would be it.

Yup, I completely agree. This was an exercise more than anything else and I'm glad to hear something critical.

I have to agree with ColonC. The first Xbox logo was appropriate. It resembled the opening of a box. Even the animation of the logo resembled a box. For the XBox 360, the logo was a sphere, to resemble 360 degrees, but it maintained the famous X symbol as a crack in the sphere. In the animation, it spun. And while I can SEE your view that the name should be maintained... that has never been done before in the history of gaming, ever, and I can't imagine it working. I don't even think it works for Apple. Even the newest iPods all have different names to distinguish them from other, older models. The gaming world is no different. Each new console has to have a new name, even if it's just a number after it to show that it isn't the same, old model. With iPods, they're entirely backwards compatible. Consoles aren't necessarily like that. Parents would be PISSED if they bought a game for "little Timmy's XBox thing", only to find out that it was for the NEW model, and doesn't work on the old one.

As much as you may not like it, a new name is necessary. It doesn't have to be 720 (I don't really like it either, it's meaningless), but it needs to reflect what the new console is about. Community? New game control? Better graphics? What is the core feature of the console? Name it after that.

I feel like I was a bit harsh in how I worded what I wanted to say. In no way am I trying to gauge your skills at all, I just definitely think the logo of a system (or even that which would be on a box) needs to be something that is very much easy to pass by but also eye-catching. It's a horrendously awkward balance to try and meet. Needs to be instantly recognizable but it cannot detract from the art of the game... Yours is definitely recognizable and doesn't take focus away from the art, but it just, for me, lacks a certain... Je ne sais quoi. I do like how much effort you put into it, by creating multiple designs and showing the different uses. It looks like you could definitely make an impact in the field of logo design.

I understand, but like I said this is purely practice. If you look on the back of any idevice it doesn't read "iPhone 4" or "iPod Touch" it's always just "iPhone" and "iPod". I wanted to apply that here but I guess that doesn't translate as well to the mark itself, which is something I understood going in and something I knew would be ill-received. But hey, I was optimistic.

Initially the reason for my leaving it as just "xbox" was that I would come up with a name later but just "xbox" grew on me. And I really don't HAVE to do anything. It's all hypothetical.

Not at all, I understood what you were trying to say. And thanks, always trying to get better.

Don't get me wrong, I love the design. And I love how you used the diamond shape to add in information about what the game is for. Great use of space. But in this case, the part of the XBox logo that has remained constant for the last ten years is the XBox font itself. It's the rest that changes. Keep the design. Just give it a new name. The familiarity with the console comes from the font, not the name. That's what ties it in across multiple generations.

I could easily see Microsoft brand it as simply the Xbox, almost like how Apple is branding the new iPad as simply the iPad, not the iPad 3.

The iPad is different. There aren't as many significant changes as there are from console to console. How confusing would it just keep the name of the WiiU as Wii, with a different logo? People buying the product (not as well-informed as others) would end up buying games for the wrong console. The iPad has better compatibility with different versions, isn't significantly different, has only downloadable content.

Don't call it 720. In my opinion, that name is rather silly. 360 makes sense because it means full circle. 720 means you keep ending up right back where you were, but twice as much.

Rumor on the internet is that it will be called the XBox Infinity. Go to work.

That would be an acceptable name, and there has also been strong rumors of Loop being the name.
