    Default Dragon's Dogma

    Release Date: May 22nd, 25th | Platforms: PS3, 360
    Publisher: Capcom | Developer: Capcom

Crazyjp and myself can't be the only ones looking forward to this game. We need to generate some buzz, get people interested, start some discussions. Hopefully this thread does just that, because it looks very promising.

Dragon's Dogma is an action role-playing game from developers behind franchise like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. It's set in a fully explorable, open world environment and employs engaging hack n' slash combat and a solid difficulty curve that attempts to discourage mindless button-mashing. Accompanying companion characters known as Pawns will play a large role, and can even be shared amongst friends and strangers online.

The demo is available now on Xbox 360 and PS3. Be sure to check it out, it's definitely worth it.

    Two hour gameplay stream (Spoilers)

    Previews

In an interesting online connectivity twist, your main Pawn is shared online, uploaded to the rift for others to hire and use in their own party. The higher you level your Pawn, the more it's worth, and the more it will cost other players to use. Similarly, you can spend earned RC (Rift credits) to hire someone else's Pawn, adding them to your own party. These pawns can be freely dumped and hired as you see fit, enabling you to custom tailor your party for any battle or quest situation. My pawn is only worth a few hundred RC, but she has already gone out on adventures without me, always coming back with experience, money, item loot and even advice for quests I might go on later...

...From what I've seen of the game, you'll need to take full advantage of the dynamic combat system to survive. You'll blast through basic rats and bats without effort, but anything beyond that is a solid challenge. You're not up against Dark Souls-style ball busting here, but you also shouldn't expect to mash your way through anything less than a simple goblin. If you're outnumbered, you're probably going to die, at least early on. If you're ill-equipped? Dead. Out-ranked? Dead. And if your exploration sense overrides your common sense and has you venturing out a bit too far from home base? Super dead. This was a tough but enjoyable lesson... Read more at Destructoid

I played the demo for about 2 minutes, haven't played it for longer. I plan to later. From what I could tell it looks good. Getting this this month.

I was very pleasantly surprised. Combat felt responsive, visceral and in general very entertaining. From what was shown in the demo, I could imagine some boss fights leaning toward the Souls level of intensity and difficulty. With Pawns, the Chimera and Griffin weren't much of an issue, but solo they're very formidable.

I played it and I wasn't a fan. The combat felt like too much of a clusterfuck most of the time and I couldn't get to grips with the Bow and Arrow at all.

The demo was pretty cool, I just wish it wasn't so damn dark at night. Even with the lantern I can hardly see a thing. Brightness adjusted and all. Minor concern, but geez is it a good time.

It's now official that the game will have a dragon so strong, the Ur Dragon, that it's health bar is universally shared over every player's game, and everyone who confronts it is contributing to it's eventual death, worldwide. The player who makes the final strike will receive a "maximum reward" while all other players who aided in the fight will receive less prestigious items.

Really now, why aren't more people here interested in this?

Not sure what you mean by "clusterfuck". It's a demo you should play more than once, if only to get the controls down. I removed the HUD entirely, too, so it wasn't as crowded and found myself enjoying it even more than the first time.

I feel the same way. I wasn't following it until I'd played the demo, and after that fight with the griffin it's definitely one I'm looking forward to. And to think it's coming from Capcom.

I read the review from GameInformer. I'm trying not to spoil the game for myself with trailers and such so I'm a little in the dark but I'm gonna see if I can get it.

By clusterfuck I meant too crowded. You have 3 other people all going for the same target and it gets far too busy IMO. I would prefer it if I didn't have a party.
