It looks awkward because, although you changed the positions, you didn't rotate them horizontally. Rotate Sonic horizontally so he is facing the right and Knuckles horizontally so he is facing the left. It will look a lot better.

Edit: I fixed a grammar issue (it says "He's will be not") and I changed "in this adventure" to "in this journey" to avoid it to be repetitive
