Personally, I hate it because it butchered a series I love. I'm not so childish to say "change sucks because it's changed," it's the fact I don't
like the changes made. Nu Dante looks and sounds stupid (In my opinion of course) and from the trailers and screenshots I've seen, just looks bland as hell (pun not intended.) Then the game half-asses some elements of the originals in what seems like a complete cop-out to win back fans (the white hair devil trigger, Ebony and Ivory, etc.) Though why they even bother with that is pretty strange, as the lead designer already said he
doesn't care about the fan reaction. So, that's pretty much killed my respect for the developers, as if
his other actions haven't already. The combat I've seen in my opinion looks bland and uninteresting, with only 3 enemies on-screen at once while Nu Dante pulls them toward him as they make no effort to defend themselves. A lot of people were already disappointed with DMC4's simplified combat, and I doubt keeping this in the new game made many fans happy. It's not
supposed to be God Of War, it shouldn't have "grapple the shiny thing to do a cool move" it should be you in control of the cool moves, you performing all these awesome moves. Another aspect of the combat is the whole "change the weapon to a fast attack, medium attack, or a heavy attack" thing, that we
totally haven't seen before. I admit I quite liked the shifting buildings idea, but the way the developer described it is "you will be haunted by mysterious voices that will try to get under your skin and scare you" what do we get? "Fuck you, We hate you! Etc." Basically, when rebooting a franchise, it's important to keep certain things about the franchise in mind. Here, Nu Dante is the spawn of an angel and devil. That isn't right AT ALL. Real Dante is the son of a human, and took great pride in that. When his mother was murdered, it gave him the motivation to do what he does, kill demons and get revenge. Original? Not at all, fun, hell yes. Nu Dante is the son of an angel...Already they've failed to follow the franchise. I could even forgive the bland looks if they at least got
something right. But hey, I'm only a fan, they don't care about my opinion. I'm only one of the people who helped make the franchise what is today. Tl;dr = Ninja Theory fucking sucks. Hmm, and so concludes my first proper rant, I hope it was good. In an effort to make this post seem relevant to MGR, I say that at least Kojima Productions and Platinum actually know what they are doing. They know that a ninja character in Metal Gear would perform (if not that over-the-top) like that. I mean, we've seen Gray Fox perform some crazy stuff, so I think that if a reboot was needed, I think they are going in the right way about it. Also, I hope there's still an option to turn the blade to knock out the enemy instead.
