Fun fact: Metal Gear Rising was originally cancelled (not going to be, actually did happen), as the team couldn't find a puprose for the games aside from chopping everything in sight, but Platinum Games decided to bring it back.

Personally, I hate it because it butchered a series I love. I'm not so childish to say "change sucks because it's changed," it's the fact I don't like the changes made. Nu Dante looks and sounds stupid (In my opinion of course) and from the trailers and screenshots I've seen, just looks bland as hell (pun not intended.) Then the game half-asses some elements of the originals in what seems like a complete cop-out to win back fans (the white hair devil trigger, Ebony and Ivory, etc.) Though why they even bother with that is pretty strange, as the lead designer already said he doesn't care about the fan reaction. So, that's pretty much killed my respect for the developers, as if his other actions haven't already.

The combat I've seen in my opinion looks bland and uninteresting, with only 3 enemies on-screen at once while Nu Dante pulls them toward him as they make no effort to defend themselves. A lot of people were already disappointed with DMC4's simplified combat, and I doubt keeping this in the new game made many fans happy. It's not supposed to be God Of War, it shouldn't have "grapple the shiny thing to do a cool move" it should be you in control of the cool moves, you performing all these awesome moves. Another aspect of the combat is the whole "change the weapon to a fast attack, medium attack, or a heavy attack" thing, that we totally haven't seen before. I admit I quite liked the shifting buildings idea, but the way the developer described it is "you will be haunted by mysterious voices that will try to get under your skin and scare you" what do we get? "Fuck you, We hate you! Etc."

Basically, when rebooting a franchise, it's important to keep certain things about the franchise in mind. Here, Nu Dante is the spawn of an angel and devil. That isn't right AT ALL. Real Dante is the son of a human, and took great pride in that. When his mother was murdered, it gave him the motivation to do what he does, kill demons and get revenge. Original? Not at all, fun, hell yes. Nu Dante is the son of an angel...Already they've failed to follow the franchise. I could even forgive the bland looks if they at least got something right. But hey, I'm only a fan, they don't care about my opinion. I'm only one of the people who helped make the franchise what is today.

Tl;dr = Ninja Theory fucking sucks.

Hmm, and so concludes my first proper rant, I hope it was good. In an effort to make this post seem relevant to MGR, I say that at least Kojima Productions and Platinum actually know what they are doing. They know that a ninja character in Metal Gear would perform (if not that over-the-top) like that. I mean, we've seen Gray Fox perform some crazy stuff, so I think that if a reboot was needed, I think they are going in the right way about it.

Also, I hope there's still an option to turn the blade to knock out the enemy instead.

This was in September 2010, so alot could have changed since then, but Shigenobu Matsuyama said:

"It's not the stealth you normally have played in MGS. It will be purely based on action. I call it the Hunting Stealth. You will be the hunter. You will hide because you don't want to be spotted by the enemy.

So you will hide at high speed and hunt down your opponent. It's not like waiting stealth. It will be high speed and acrobatic. When you punch, you're trying to absorb the energy or weapon or item. You're not just waiting, still. It's fast paced action stealth so you can hunt without being noticed."

From that, it sounds pretty cool. But I don't have a good idea of what it will be like until I see it in action.

Sounds like it could give the hack-and-slash gameplay a more tactical feel.

Yeah, like he said, it will be more like acrobatic hunting. I'm pretty excited for that.

I thought I'd heard somewhere that the stealth was completely canned and it's full-on action now.

The term "Revengeance" was apparently used by a KKK member during a court hearing in 1969.

They obviously have nothing better to do than complain about a medium they've no knowledge of or interaction with beyond the Pac-Man era.

I hope not, but it's certainly a possibility. They've obviously changed alot of things since September 2010...

I really don't care man, im desperate for a good bad-ass action game. as long as the gameplay is on the level of DMC3 or at least close AND the same level of attitude in the trailer i will be a happy man.

They killed Dante and DMC in one reboot, you plain don't get why DMC fans hate the changes. DMC is all about the attitude - i can't count how many times i've chuckled and said "This is too crazy!" in DMC3, it's the attitude of dante and his down-right absured and funny behavior that really makes you love him. even when a giant angry demon starts making threats he always mocks it and shows no fear. If you ask me what is the most memorable thing about the series i will always say the attitude, and i don't mean just the attiude of dante. i mean the attitude of the game developers, they never fail to show you how much of a joke-cracking bad-ass Dante is, the more you see of him the more you love him. they pretty much showed that regardless of how many flashy moves you implanted it was always the attitude of the character that really made the genre MUCH more appreciable.

Dante is the mario of this genre. imagine if mario was changed to some hipster to appeal to the new crowds - no i don't need you to imagine just go and look at crash bandicoot, THIS is what happened to dante. the morons at NT are only using the DMC name to get more sales, the game looks NOTHING like a DMC game. it looks like someone took a turd after ingesting Enslaved, it completely lacks the dark and moody envioremants of DMC. The fools at capcom are useless and don't know how to handle their legendary franchises. i really wish both Sega and Capcom just hang their coats and get out of the business seeing as they want to either hand everything to the west or take a dump on games. The Twilight Dante isn't dante, regardless of how many times they will add small details he will NEVER be dante. if this game performs well then that's the final nail in DMC's coffin, which pisses me off so much. i really love the franchise, it's far superior than the dull and boring GoW (Kratos can scream all sorts of stupidity and rip apart as many giants as he wants but he will never be anywhere near as cool and likeable as dante, he is a horrible character).

Look if you want to start a new IP and kill an old franchise it's fine, but don't take our beloved franchises - mutilate it and slap the old name on it with "cool" capitalization ( look! DmC omg it's new agey!!11 tilted camera shots in bathroom high five!111) - then expect us to accept it. screw NT , i really hope the game sells worse than Enslaved. then people will see it as the turd it is.

Oh, and don't get me started on the hipster dumbass that they modeled the protagonist off.

Well...Ninja Theory made Enslaved and Heavenly Sword so I can't hate them, but I understand that a fan of the series would be disappointed with DmC.

Disappointed is an understatement, shocked and angered is more like it. Heavenly Sword was mediocre at best, the only thing good about it was the facial capture tech used.
