    Default No More Artists

Think of me what you will, disregard this thread as another 'way what vgboxart has done to shit' complaining thread, I don't really care.

I just want to make a statement. And that statement is that nobody here can call themselves artists anymore. I mean, do any of you care about the main purpose of this website anymore? How many of you only see the latest submissions as you're scrolling to check the latest threads at the bottom of the page? It's pathetic how far this place had deviated from what it's purpose is. No wonder Reed doesn't give a shit anymore. The site is just full of pretentious children with over sized ego's in an endless dick measuring contest.

When was the last time you made a constructive criticism of a new members box? or any box that wasn't created by a 'veteran'. There's been no progress in terms of art on this website at all, no trends, no new ideas. It's sad, it really is. I didn't join this website to take part in pointless forum arguments. Arguments that are started and fought by the same few idiots who you all worship as witty, smart, funny and intelligent.

I have been here for an awful long time, longer than anyone else still active as you're reading this I would wager. I have seen everything this place has gone through and I have never seen it like this... Why, because whenever any shit happened, the art would still remain. People would still continue making quality work, and people would still notice and appreciate it.

I posted a piece of artwork the other day, a piece that I worked on for hours and I would have gotten more comments and criticisms if I had asked people around my house to look at it.

I have given 5+ years of my time to this place, I thought it would get through this shit, but I was clearly blinded by my loyalty and love for art. I'm afraid I can give it no more of my time.

If you are just going to flame this thread and try and start up another argument or insult me, don't bother.

I make boxes all of the time. And I comment on every box I favorite.

    It's true.
The only members giving it their all are the new ones. Everyone just browses the forum now.

Just to be clear, I wasn't aiming my insults at everyone. I am well aware there are still some decent members that work hard to try and keep this site alive. You and I know who you are. You're just diamonds in a mountain of cole, though.

I really try to contribute, but I haven't the time because of college to do much of anything.

I do my best to contribute where I can. I comment on covers, give critique, and while my own submissions are pretty far and few in between, I am working rather tirelessly on an update of my own at the moment.

I'm going to sound like a broken record saying this, but really, complaining isn't going to change anything. If you still have an interest in this hobby, the best you can do is continue contributing to the site in the best way that you can, and hope others follow your example.

There were twelve boxes posted yesterday. Obviously not as much as there would usually be in the past, but there's significantly less active members on the site. Most of the active members still post boxes pretty regularly.

As for your newest work, one major reason I think it didn't get a lot of attention is that from the main page, it almost looks like a random image that was uploaded from somebody who didn't understand what the site was for. Because of the large presentation and text at the bottom it looks like an advertisement for the DVD. Also, like I said before, there's significantly less active members to actually look at your box.

If you were here more often you might have caught things like the VGBA Cup (which is still running) Round 2, which produced some stunning retro works, or Mariolee's Theme's of the Month. Not only did these do wonders for the main site, but they offered a massive amount of inspiration for other artists. Adding to this, there's been plenty of stuff uploaded over the last few days. And a good portion of it has been great. And there's also other comps running at the moment too, like the Summer of Sonic.

As for people not viewing your box, i understand where you're coming from as the same thing has happened to me. A few times actually. But thats just the way this site rolls. I feel its happened to my lastest box, it happened to once of my boxes i did a few years ago. I guess it comes down to who's on and what their tastes are. Do i find it annoying? Yes, it is a little bit, but thats the way the site is. Its not a new thing thats for sure. And i guess next time i should promote it better or contribute more to get some interest in my work. You can't hold people on the site 100% responsible if your box isn't getting views or C&C, you know.

On a final note, in my honest opinion, the issue with this site at the moment (if you want to say there is an issue) is there are too many people bitching and complaining, and not enough people taking action. You want the main site to look better? Get out there and start making boxes. Can't be bothered? Then stop banging your pot about it.

Again, i'm not trying to start arguments or flame you, you've got a few valid points, but this sort of thing has been flogged to death in the forums, people are quite sick of it and the answer is pretty simple IMO.

There you go, there is the real reason why you're pissed off.

The same thing happened with a box art of mine and it did anger me a little but i got over it. this site is free and offers you a place to share your box art, you either post it or you don't. the community clearly has changed for the worse but there is nothing you can do.

I love this site and whenever i feel like making another box art i won't let the lack of comments scare me away.
OBVIOUSLY THE REAL REASON WHY VGBA IS STILL ALIVE.

I make boxes for fun. I have tons of blah boxes that I made just for the fun of it that I'll never post. It's not all about comments and favorites, it's just something I enjoy doing.

I gotta agree with few people that posted above - less talking and more doing. Everyone is responsible for what has happened to the site and instead of blaming others, blame yourself and see how you can make things better, rather than how others can.

In this case, if you want attention, you have to give attention to others. Your latest comment on a cover was back in June. If you're not giving to the community, then don't except the community to give it back to you.

Truth is.. I don't have time to try to support the site. So during the brief times when I am on, I devote my time to what entertains me the most. Which happen to be the forums. However, I think the site has actually been fairly active and better than I'd say it was last winter. I think were steadily improving IMO.

Sneaky, sneaky. I think it'd safe to assume that your main point boils down to this...after all, if it didn't, wouldn't you be commenting more on boxarts? Time on this site means absolutely nothing nowadays; rather, it's what you actually manage to contribute in your time here that really counts. The forums would be absolutely flooded if everyone who got a lackluster response on their box(es) posted a thread.

The more active and liked you are the more comments and favs you get. Its hard to admit that but that's what it has become.
If you were more active you would have noticed the competitions that are placed every so often. Don't come in here on your high horse Mr 2005 with your bitchy moaning. There's not a god damned thing you can do and making a pointless thread will no nothing.

To be fair, I'm always checking the main site. It's where I spend 90% of my time. I know what you're getting at though. People need to become boxartists again, damnit!
