    i wonder how, in 3d boxes, how they get those backgrounds behind their box, or how they get the reflection underneath them

    well, for the BG behind the box, they just add a new layer in whatever programme they use, and put it underneath the box.
    for the reflection, some people fade it with gradients, some people copy it, flip it and put it under the box, than lower the opacity.

    For photoshop;

    In the layer's window (press F7 if it ain't there), you will notice "opacity:100%".

    Mess around with the slider to suit your liking. Method 2 described by Ayron is the most popular method of making reflection and the easiest.
