    Alright, thanks!
    Huh?

Well, this will be my first time making custom art, unless I find a game that doesn't have many colours in its art anyway. Should be fun!

I'm a bit confused though. Why isn't anti-aliasing allowed? How would that make any difference to the amount of colours?

    antialiasx5.gif
See all the different shades of red/pink around the circle? It may look like just a red circle, but it actually has many different shades of red around it. This would probably be 5 colors in itself.

    Oh, ok. Thanks!

EDIT: I just realised, how will we have screenshots on our boxes? Are they included in the five colours?

EDIT 2: Do the five colours include black and white?

In the first post it says that black and white don't count toward your colors.

It doesn't say that anymore since he edited it. So I am not sure still.

Here's some examples of what you guys are shooting for http://www.vgboxart.com/tags/5colorvgba/

Because of the changed rules, black and white DO count as part of your five colors.

On Photoshop, there's text options on the top toolbar when text is your tool. There's a box that should say "Strong" or "Crisp" by default. Click on that, and there's an option called "None". That should do it...unless you don't use PS, but I assume you do with the quality of your work.

Yay! That works . Yes, I do use PS. Thanks!!

EDIT: One more question...How do I transform something while keeping it anti-alias? If I resize or rotate anything, it automatically puts on anti-alias, and I don't see any options up at the top to turn this off. Any ideas?

Just five. You can use any color in the world, but you are only using FIVE. If there are any more than five colors on your box, it won't be considered for judging.

So If we have red and dark red each one counts as one of the 5 differnet colours, don't they?

Yea, which is why anti-aliasing and the use of gradients isn't allowed.

Would black and white count as colors then?

Yes they do. Flexx said a couple posts up "Because of the changed rules, black and white DO count as part of your five colors."

That's tough. I'm not sure. What I did in the past is when I finished my work, I saved it out as .GIF, and set the output colors to my 5. It pretty much forces those other tones from anti-aliasing out.

Okay. I find that I can just transform it and then fill it with paint bucket with anti-alias off. That fixes it, but sometimes I have to erase some excess stuff on the edges.

Is this still out of 25 points a piece, or just 20? If 25, what are the last five points awarded for?

To my knowledge, there's no way to maintain crispness when transforming (I'm sure there's a way, though. It's Photoshop we're talking about here.) Unless you're distorting it, I would just mess with the font size instead of transforming it.
