Some may say this thread is pointless. Some may argue that the site is fine. But in my eyes, the site isn't what a use to be. VGBoxart use to be a site where artists could gather and share their covers and grow together, but now the ability to grow isn't as easy. The talent level of artists has upped majorly over the years, with new ideas always being introduced to covers and what becomes "standard" on a cover. What use to make VGBA so exciting was that anyone could join and learn, but now, that's impossible. New artists get ignored and receive no constructive criticism. What they get is a "You SUCK", "This terrible", and other comments that are rude, uncalled for, and don't further the artist.

The issue lies within you, the every day VGBA member. Only you can solve the issue. And if everyone solves the issue, this site can become what it should be.

What's the issue? The issue is the lack of constructive criticism on this site. Especially to new comers. WIPs get ignored, and many new people don't bother posting them because they know they won't get replies. Also, even the most seasoned of veterans can use constructive criticism, but do they receive it? No. They only get a "+fav". We all have opinions, but rarely are they expressed towards covers. This site is jammed packed with forum lurkers. Get out of the forums and comment on some covers. Too afraid to leave the forums? Comment on some wips.

This isn't the only issue. New members also need to be more involved. If you're new, ask for help! Ask your favorite artist for help. And to all current VGBA members, if a new artist approaches you for help, be nice, and try to help. It's sad to see potentially great artists submit good covers and receive no comments.

SUMMARY: All members here could be a little more active one way or another, and to restore the site to glory, I'd like members to agree to a pledge. By agreeing to the pledge, you will do the following;

1. Comment on the covers I favorite

2. Use constructive criticism on the covers I comment on

3. Help a new artist by;
A) Posting in a WIP
B) Introducing myself and offer mentoring
C) Post a constructive comment on their latest box

4. Comment on a cover that in my terms seems "bad" and use constructive criticism

5. Introduce myself to new members frequently

6. Ignore trolls/Do not feed trolls

7. Show self restraint and not argue with other members.

8. Comment on at least 3 NEW covers on the front page when I log on

I don't expect a lot of people to agree with this, if anyone. But if you'd like to sign, or even add a pledge yourself, say something. I will update this thread frequently.

I doubt it. I know people love this site. We just all need to show that we love it by making an impact. By doing something greater than just talk on the forums. We can make an impact by going to the homepage and share our passion for what brought us all here in the first place. The passion to design video game covers.

Not to sound cynical for the sake of being cynical, but I've seen this mentioned so many times over the years that the chance of it happening under this particular name posted by this particular person is as likely to happen as Reed suddenly becoming active. This site has the same issue as American politics... a leader we have no faith in. Talking about doing all these things has never worked before, and I don't see it starting now. We need a uniting force in a person, not an idea. If the idea worked, we would have done it before now. We need to have faith in the ability of our admin and our mods to keep things cleaned up. Currently we don't, because they don't. And until we get a fresh new face behind the bullhorn, I don't see things improving.

Threads like this have become redundant. The whole site isn't going to change and get better based on another "VGBA needs help" thread. Not to be an ass, but this has been done a million times, and it never changes anything.
