i don't get it

1.how does every body get the backgrounds with out the objects in them?
2.how do you get "backgrounds?" i can't find backgrounds that work.
3. do people just take one big picture from the internet and add it to their box or just getting the pictures and the backgrounds themselves and putting them all together on the box?

Help me please. i'm really confused about this stuff

well.
usually [ for me ] it works just to check some sites/games and get inspiration.
than just imagine or even sketch a lay-out or the concept.
google the pictures.
adjust them to your lay-out, or adjust your lay-out to the pictures available.
Backgrounds are always different.
they can be 'different' [ the blending mode ] gradients, or one big picture, or even a combination of the two mentioned before.
also, if you try to make a box, making signatures helps you to learn how to use the effects/blending stuff and the programm you use alot better.
and please put effort in your boxes, if that shows, you will definetly improve over time.
When you get an obstacle, or just need some help. there will always be people to help you, including me.

It depends what type of style you want to use for the box. Blending pics usually works best. You can also use color pallets, but that is something else. Anyway, if you want a simplistic design, you would go for a simplistic background. Filters in Photoshop can also work, but try not to overuse them. Just listen to Ayron, he basicially got everything down.

how do you add backgrounds to box backs?

well, you can make a new layer and make it your background e.g. add a pic or
use brushes.
then put the layer under the layers you want to appear it underneath.
et VOILA,a background!
[ to simplify: just add a new layer and put it under your other layers except for the box, than cut it out so it fits in the box ] or you can just do the stuff CruSadEr told you.

well. a 'layer' hmm.. well hard to explain.
when you have a picture, or a box, it is made out of several layers, which you can add effects too and decide where the 'image' is, underneath or above the other 'layers'
