Please God, no.
Please God, no.
Why? Not to offend, but what could possibly be good about this idea? Combining the two series makes no sense whatsoever, and wouldn't do much else other than alienate and enrage each franchises' respective fanbases.
I'm a big Nintendo fan, and I have faith in what Retro Studios does, but this is one of the most nonsensical ideas I've ever heard.
Of course, this is all moot because the rumor is almost certainly false. Still, the very idea just... baffles me.
Metroid is not sacred to me. At all. Just, it's not. StarFox kind of is, but it's also very silly in nature, I could deal with something so ridiculous as Samus entering the StarFox universe, their universes colliding, or something.
I doubt it will happen, and I would rather see a proper StarFox game first, but I would still be okay with it. Mostly because I know it couldn't possibly be TERRIBLE if it were real, and it would be fun to see the fanboys rage, quite honestly. :P
That's well and good for people like you, but I imagine the majority of fans from either side (and I'm not saying "fanboys") are not and would not be okay with something like this. It's a departure for both series that wouldn't make any sense. Other M was a big departure for the Metroid series, and look how that turned out.
Combining the two franchises seems like a suicidal idea to me. It'd be more logical to have separate games in order to revitalize interest in them after recent missteps.
So, he goes into extremely great detail, and then totally back tracks at the end basically saying "It may or may not be something that was possibly brought up at some point in someone's mind around the vicinity of Retro."
That said, I would buy a Wii U JUST to play this. System seller for all the wrong reasons.
Kickstarter to Bring 'Hardest Platformer Ever' to Wii U eShop:
If you donate to New York-based developer Pwnee Studios' Kickstarter for Cloudberry Kingdom, you could get the chance to shore up the acquisition of your first Wii U game.
Cloudberry Kingdom is a 2D side-scrolling platformer in which levels are randomly generated and the difficulty is altered by an AI that measures your performance in the game and generate new levels accordingly. The game will have a bevy of features, including an arcade mode, leaderboards, a custom level builder, and different characters with unique abilities.
The Kickstarter page features artwork that gives an idea of what the final game may be like. As for proposed platforms, Pwnee Studios is aiming for a release on the Wii U and Steam as a downloadable title. When the page was originally created, it mentioned that supporters of the project would receive a copy of the game via Steam; Nintendo has since given them permission to also give away the game on Wii U once it is completed.

Nintendo's going to reveal Wii U games before E3? That doesn't sound right.
