Thread: Video Game Series You Thought Went Downhill?

Exclamation Video Game Series You Thought Went Downhill?

So what video game series that you think start off great but went down hill later on? For me it would be:

Crash Bandicoot: I loved Crash 2 and Crash 3 on the PS1 as a kid, and I still love them today. Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash on the PS1 where also great as well IMO. After Universal Interactive Studios took over the series then the series started to die with "Wrath of Cortex" back in 2001. "Crash Twinsanity" was better which is hardly saying much. Nitro Kart was fun but it was nowhere as good as Crash Team Racing for the PS1, and I never care for any Crash games after Twinsanity.

Final Fantasy: I used to be a hard core Final Fantasy fan and I loved FF1-10. I thought FF9 was a good game, and I loved FFX too. Things went down hill after FF12 because I thought Final Fantasy 12 lack everything that the past games did and I hated the new gameplay. FF13 try to bring back the classic game feel of the series and the gameplay was much better. But the story and the overall game itself was a major letdown. I think I'm not going to play anything after FF13 unless they bring back the classic gameplay and feel that FF1-FF9 had.

Mortal Kombat: I did enjoy the 3D games (MKDA, MKD, and MKA) but I think the started to play less like Mortal Kombat and try to be more like other 3D fighters like Tekken and Virtual Fighter. Most of the newer characters where so forgettable, and I never like how they started to kill off characters like Jax, Johnny Cage, Sonya, Liu Kang in MKDA. I'm glad that the new game in the series went back to the roots and made it worth playing. Good to have 2D gameplay in the series again for the first time in almost 14 years.

Pokemon: I thought the games kind of lost their charm to me with G5 since I don't think any of the Pokemon feel the same compare to the Pokemon from G1-G4. I feel like that I can't get into any of the newer characters or the new Pokemon at all.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Sonic is a big one and I thought "Sonic Heroes" was the last good Sonic game. That game was a lot of fun to play and I had a great time playing it when I used to own it for the PS2 back in 2004-2005. Shadow the Hedgehog could have been a great game if it was not for the awful camera angles and if the guns where not so useless. Sonic '06 was awful game and I give up half through the game. I also think Sonic and the Secret Rings was hardly a better game and I never play any Sonic game after Sonic '06. I hear Sonic Colors was great though.

Spyro the Dragon: The first three games where my all time favorite games as a kid and I still love them today as adult. While some of the GBA games where okay, but the series really started to suck with "Enter the Dragon Fly" back in 2002. That game was awful due to its terrible gameplay, lame story, and the long loading times. I stop playing Spyro after "Spyro: A Hero's Tail" since that game was so boring and was hardly any better then "Enter the Dragon Fly". I never play any of the new games and I do not plan too.

Tony Hawk: Tony Hawk 1-3 where awesome games and the last great Tony Hawk game to me was Underground 2. After the Underground games ended, the series started to suck and it seem like everyone started to play like the same. American Wasteland was fun but it was nowhere as great as Underground 1-2 or the first three Tony Hawk games. I thought Project 8 sucked major balls and I stop playing the games since then.

I know people liked Final Fantasy 12 and 13 but I didn't. None of those two games where as good as the past games and had the same level of gameplay that FF1-FF9 did. They where ending up similar how the recent 3D Castlevania games where IMO.

Lol, I first saw Crash Bandicoot and was like "That's what I'll say!"

Crash Bandicoot: Heres the deal with Crash, I loved Crash 1, 2, 3, Bash, Team Racing, and Twinsanity. Crash Bandicoot died after Twinsanity, due to them adding tattoos to Crash and remodeling them so much that they didn't look like eachother. Hopefully one day we will see him come back, better than ever.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Ok so Sonic, Sonic is my second favorite Franchise. It used to be my favorite Franchise before I played a Mario game. It died in 2006 with the releases of Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog. Shadow the Hedgehog had no plot and no reason what-so-ever, the only reason SEGA made it because beggers begged SEGA for a Shadow only game, so that's what they did. Sonic 2006 was a different story, SEGA made the game because they wanted to, which was a huge mistake. They made Silver the Hedgehog, I like Silver, but I don't think he should've appeared in a Sonic 15th Anniversary Game. The other thing I hate about Sonic 06 is the terrible controls, terrible camera and the Terrible story. If Elise had the Chaos Emerald since the beginning, how did Sonic turn super in the Sonic 2? The worse thing was a human girl locked lips with a blue metomorphic hedgehog. The other thing I hate about Sonic is the bad gimmicks, every Sonic game comes with a gimmick. I'm sure Sonic Fans didn't beg Sonic to turn into a werewolf or wield a sword, I'm just glad the gimmicks are all in the past, and that the Blue Blur has made a giant come-back and made Mario run for his money in Sonic Colors.

Guitar Hero: Got to old, too fast.

Big the Cat (character) -did this for no reason-: We hate you, Big. Go die in a fire, and take Froggy with you.

Spyro the Dragon: It died after PS1, 'nuff said.

Spider-Man: I loved the Classic Spider-Man games like Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2 -The Ones For PS1, not the ones related to the movie franchise- They were epic games. Then they made Ultimate Spiderman, and the Spiderman movie franchise games, minus Spider-Man 2 the Movie game, because it was pretty good. Then in 2008 they made a promising look at Spiderman: Web of Shadows. Which it failed terribly. Then two years later, they made the Web-Slinger make a come-back in a wonderful way, In Spider-Man shattered Dimensions. I loved Dimensions so much because it actually had voices from the Cartoons, The guy who voiced Spider-Man from the 1995 series was the voice of Spider-Man Noir, the voice of Ultimate Spiderman was the voice of the guy from Spectacular Spiderman and so on.

Mario Party Franchise: I loved 1, 2, 3, and 4. Then that's where it went down-hill, It went the same-way and it never changed. The mini-games changed but they had the same plot as a mini-game in the previous game. I really hope Nintendo doesnt make another Mario Party until like 2015 when the beggers go insane and nag and nag.

And those are the franchises that went down-hill to me.

    - Spider-man (Loved the two on the PSx and the first and second movie-take one for PS2 was decent)
    - Command & Conquer (Loved Red Alert, which was also on the PSx)
    - Tony Hawk (What happened, i used to addor those games?!)
    - Star Wars: Battlefront (I and II were brilliant, but those spin-off types for PSP and such were pretty bad.)
    - Medal of Honor (Ever since Frontline - Though i enjoyed the 2010's reboot's campaign)
    - Conflict (Started out with a great two games -Desert Storm I and II, but Denied Ops really ruined it)

Sorry to burst your bubble Luigi, but ask 99% of gamers if Spider-Man 2 (Movie version) was a good game, and they'll say yes. It was the best movie tie-in ever created and damn fine game on it's own.

Wait, I was thinking Spider-Man 2 was Spider-Man 3. I do like Spider-Man 2, Only because of the free-roaming enviroment, and the graphics.

This. I hated all the characters except HK-47 and Mandalore. Not to mention the story was awful and the locations were boring. "Oh, I know! Let's do a ice planet! Oh, then let's do a city planet! Oh, then how about a volcano planet?"

Really I thought Fallout 3 was the best out of the series (for me at least)

I haven't played Reach but I thought it was better, but everyone wanted to go back to Halo 3.

Finally someone who isn't ignorant and who has some god damn SENSE.I loved Spiderman 2

Ultimate Spiderman was awesome even by today's standards, I must've played it start to finish 3 or 4 times. Spiderman games in general were only fun up until friend or foe IMO. I dunno about Shattered dimensions yet though, but FoF was the low point for the web swinger.

Can't believe no one mention Castlevania? Once the series went into 3D then the games where not the same any more to me and I started to get sick of metroidvania type of gameplay that was keep on being used later on in the series.
