I'm sure they are, I was just saying that they're still introducing characters, and haven't got to the meat of the storyline yet, so it's still early to be estimating what you'd pay for the series collection.
According to Tancharoen, the following characters are confirmed for Season 2:
- Liu Kang
- Kung Lao
- Kabal
- Nightwolf
- Smoke
- Jade
- Reptile
Tancharoen has also stated that he would like to try and do a Goro "more realistically" in a style that would fit his vision. Season 2 will focus on the events of the Mortal Kombat tournament. Tancharoen has stated that he "does not want to be cornered into making Liu Kang win", saying "we've already seen this ending" possibly meaning he could explore other conclusions to the tournament.
Interested in seeing what they will do with Kabal and Reptile, Reptile's form, and origin has always been very spotty.
I'm hoping they stick to the Mortal Kombat Rebirth form: A normal guy with a terrible disfigurement who is also a cannibal. Works well for this universe, I'd think. Not sure about Kabal.
Looking forward to Cyrax and Sektor. Tancharoen is reported saying "It takes a long time to do CG robots". CG? I'm expecting something incredibly epic or incredibly cheesy.
It's funny since the cyborg's character designs have always been "guy in hockey gear" and thus very easy to stay true to.
Anybody see the CG robot masters in the Mega Man fan movie? That didn't really work out so well. I'd rather have seen guys in suits that kind of resemble the original masters.
Is anybody else getting the vibe that this is absolutely different from the original concept movie? It was very "Mortal Kombat in a real life urban setting," and now we're seeing origins that are surprisingly true to the originals (Shirai Ryu, clan rivalries, outworld, etc.)
I'm happy, but at the same time I really liked how drastic the departure was in the original concept. Having an underground fight to attract the city's most vicious villains and having some guys on the inside was a cool idea.
I really like for things to either be VERY true to the source material, or completely go all-out with new and exciting interpretations of the characters and their stories. I don't like it when things can't decide if it wants to be a recreation or a new concept (Silent Hill movie, for example.)
In Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, the pilot for this series, he was a serial killer that was disfigured and ate his victims, "Reptile" was just a street name. Baraka was a surgion/serial killer that implanted blades in his own arms. it did kind of "Dark real world" takes on the characters. Scorpion was in prison, and Jax and Sonya brought him in to join in a secret underground fighting tournament with the promise that Sub-Zero would be there (Fun fact, the image of Sub-Zero from the pilot was actually an image that an independent 3D designer made and posted on a forum, it was used without his permission.)
I think it was a pretty fun and refreshing take on the series, even if it was very "look how dark and edgy we are!"
I think I'll probably go back and watch it again since it's been a while. I recommend you do the same, it was pretty cool and interesting.
On second thought the idea of MK: Rebirth is well done, however in regards to the original story, the whole magic based non-modern Mortal Kombat with different Realms and demons, Reptile should be an alien.
However, in the Rebirth trailer, in a modern society, more like a 2011 version of Mortal Kombat, that description of Baraka and Reptile works, and it works well. The enigma with this Mortal Kombat: Legacy series, is that it's dipping it's feet in both waters, is it going to be a modern adaptation or follow the original story? But then again the Earthrealm seems to be more technologically advanced than Netherrealm, etc. While Jax and Sonya are serving in the forces in modern day, people like Scorpion, are rummaging through the Netherrealm wearing robes and casting magic spells.
Scorpion and Sub-Zero are from Earth. (Until he dies, anyway. Also, you're thinking of Outworld, where Shao Kahn, Kitana, Mileena, Baraka, etc. are all from. The Netherrealm is only associated with some characters like Noob Saibot, Quan Chi, Shinnok, Scorpion and Sub-Zero (Post-death versions)
I agree with your comment about Legacy not really knowing what it wants to be. Does it want to really change up the formula (Like MK: Rebirth) or does it want to be a retelling of the original story? So far it seems to be keeping itself very close to the source material, but occasionally straying from it enough to annoy some hardcore fans.
But that's where Mortal Kombat 3 comes into this, having a character like Stryker in a game with Gods, etc. It's kind of what Mortal Kombat is supposed to be like, realism mixed with fantasy.
Awesome! Excitement.
