Thread: Prong1978 Pink Floyd Rock Band WIP

  1. #1

Default Prong1978 Pink Floyd Rock Band WIP

    POSTED: http://www.vgboxart.com/view/41566/r...oyd/?replies=1

At one point, this was an abandoned project. I posted what I had in the Aband-o-rama Thread, and was encouraged to keep at it. This is what I've worked up since then:

    Can this simple front work?
Should it stay like it is?
    Any suggestions for change?

I like your idea for a logo, however, I wouldn't bevel/emboss it, and I would remove the stroke. And just because the band is called "Pink Floyd" doesn't mean the logo has to be Pink. the origin of the name involves the band naming themselves after two jazz/blues singers. the Rock Band logo, with the Dark Side Prism is cool. Also I would include some references that actual fans would pick up on, such as the Wish You Were Here album cover. This is pretty good stuff, but it could use a little work. Just keep working on it and you will definitely get there.

Totally agree with everything said here. Seriously, couldn't have said it better myself.

The original idea I had was to have some bricks missing from Wall on the front. Through the "window" you'd be able to see the two guys on the Wish You Were Here album. I did it up, and really didn't like it. BYW, the original source of the logo I used was pink, so I just went with it.

Here's a redo on the band name as has been suggested. Do we like it better?

The black logo does look better, I must admit. Perhaps you could show the idea for the cover that you originally had, featuring the album cover from Wish You Were Here, so someone else could judge it? Other than that, there is no difference. Also, just a tip for the back, don't use the Pink Floyd font, as that would look kind of tacky. If you use it, use it on the back for the tagline.

Here's the Wish You Were Here thing. Also, any idea for a tagline? I hate to say this, but outside of owning Echoes, I'm not a particularly big Pink Floyd fan (I'd buy a Rock Band game for them though).

That doesn't look like missing bricks, that looks like an image pasted on top.

    Does this help?

I also got rid of the large Ubisoft text on the back, moved the "Pink Floyd" logo down on the front and toned down the brick effect on the instrument icons. Should the instrument icons not be rainbowish? If not, what color?

There's still Assassin's Creed text, so I may end up needing to do my own legal text. Anybody know what font it is?

    The Assassin's Creed font?

    I Believe that's it.

I appreciate the effort, but I was referring to the font for the generic legal information at the bottom of Xbox 360 box backs. The template I'm using has all sorts of references to Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed. I'd like to replace it with Harmonix and Rock Band.

Also, I'd certainly appreciate any thoughts people have on the box so far even if it's negative. I'm very amateur at this, and don't mind hearing advice from others especially if something looks flat out bad that I might not be noticing.

I have no idea if I should continue with this or not. Here's the current version. I'm really open to advice on what's working and what's not. If you don't like it, let me know. I'd rather someone who looks in here to tell me they don't like then to say nothing at all. That's part of what WIP is for.

I'm not really sure. The logo looks better, but it's the image on the bricks I don't really like. Maybe adding some depth to the bricks around it so that it seems like they are actually missing. If you're not sure what I mean I can put together kinda what I'm talking about.

The missing bricks does look strange. When a hole is made in a brick wall, it doesn't make a perfect square. It looks more like this.

This would look much better. That, plus some added depth to the bricks would look fantastic.

That's the one thing about it that I thought I did right. I added the angled bricks on the right and bottom of the hole and put a shadow on them to give it depth. Apparently it wasn't as effective as I thought.

I kind of mispoke when I said missing bricks. It would have been more accurate to describe as a window. Maybe a window is too boring though and a staggered pattern of missing bricks like you're suggesting would be more interesting.

However, if I did do all of that, would it actually make this work or would the front still be too boring? That concern is why I had abandoned this in the first place.

BTW, I really appreciate the help of everyone who has posted here.

I think you should try what bearderwalrus posted.

It's not bad, but if you're looking at the wall from straight in front of it, you would see the angled bricks from all sides and (Depending on how tall the viewer is) the top. Right now it just doesn't look correct with the viewpoint you have. I would say either work on that or try to do what Beardedwalrus suggested.

Ignore the shabby attemp at brick depth for now, how's the pattern? I think the whole front looks better without the rainbow instrument icons.
