Alan Wake? I liked it!
INSPIRATION NOTES
Alan Wake is one of those games that at first, you're really quirky about purchasing. You're a writer running around in the dark trying to find your wife and battling monsters? Isn't that like having William Shakespeare play the role of James in Silent Hill? No, Alan Wake is much different, while it gets a tad repetitive, and your options as a player are quite limited when it comes to changing this world Alan has created, the game can be unfavorable to some, but I liked the game for the fact that I played Alone In The Dark, and I hate glitches. Alan Wake is everything that Alone In The Dark is, minus the glitches, plus a better storyline, and a surprisingly high replay value.
ABOUT THE BOX
Well, as it is, I'm trying to keep the simple design element of the official box, while at the same time expanding on the visual perspective shown of Bright Falls. Personally, in-game the landscaping was phenomenal, and the cabin Alan and Alice reside in is actually amazing.
On the original box they feature Alan as part of the logo, shining his flashlight and almost stamping his name if you will, and casting light onto a canvas of darkness that surrounds a Bright Falls landscape. There's also elements of fog in the cover which the game uses to create a creepy feel, and does it quite well to be honest. Basically, what I wanted to do was take the original cover's idea of the Alan Wake name being an element within the art rather than sitting above it. However, I've reversed the idea, and the Alan wake name is somewhat bursting out of the darkness, and being consumed by it... The lighthouse is a figure that the game sort of gives you as a last stand of hope, so I wanted that to almost be "part" of the logo. As it is, it seems a tad empty, but it's just a work in progress. :] What do you guys think?
*Again this will be a majorly custom artwork box. As it is, outside of the lighthouse and the trees, it's all scratch.

I like the concept...as you stated, the design is a tad bare at the moment but I'm sure everything will really start coming together in the next few updates

As you said the game's scenery looked incredible at times, and I'm liking the concept and your reasoning behind the cover. Really looking forward to seeing more of this.

Just noticed if you keep the first initial of his first name, but keep his last name the same, it's A.Wake, as in awake! Get it!?
The box is pretty cool, but nothing really pops out about it.

Thanks for the replies guys, and I agree with you Mariolee. Nothing IS popping about it, I was really hoping to make the name be the premise of the box, it breaking through the darkness shrouding everything else. In essence the box so far is made up of the image below and and some lighting effects, along with few tweaks to coloring.

This game was incredible, as is your box. One thing I can say is to try to make the logo more official looking.

Thank you Adhiboy.
but can you give me a little more input when you say "official looking"? :P I'm not so sure what you're referring to...

This is awesome. I love what you have above. I think you need to work on the realism of the mountains a bit, and make the trees actually look like they're reflecting in the water, while also adding waves... then it will look awesome.

Thanks Koop, actually the bottom half of the image I posted was just an empty background not the water xD.. I kind of got stuck on the idea of putting the water BEHIND the trees, never figured an approach for in front of the trees. I'll work on getting a riverbank or something to show where the water begins... As for the mountains I was thinking they look a tad flat too. I wanted to do vector work for sure, but I think I can give them some more realism with a few rocky formations and darker shades of the blue I have there. I was also thinking about some gradient work too. Not sure but I'll make more posts along the way.
thanks everyone!

Updated work!
I added a few more standing monuments on the scenery, and did some work with the positioning. :P I had fun making that water tower... I applied a faint texture to the mountains that helps them POP. I realize that the texture of the mountains is perspectively too large for the distance implied by their positioning, however I like the "piece of everything" design arrangement it has. What do you think? clicky for larger

It's looking good, although I don't really think it fits a box. But that wallpaper is great. I'm using it as desktop wallpaper at the moment
-
I like this up until where the tree ends. That water really doesn't look like water, just looks like empty space.
-
@ Oxol : OMG. xP Well wow haha. Thanks I guess? The landscape view isn't going to be used as a box mind you, it'll be cut down as in the image in my first post.
@ tmrd : Well, it wasn't intended to be water really, Koop just mentioned that it could be water. It actually IS just as you said, empty space.

Update
Finally an update to this. I kept looking at it and trying to figure out what I needed to make it simple, yet busy, and interesting to look at. I think I'll do more to the cover, with a bit of the shadow possessed people scattered throughout the forest to the front. I do realize that most of this will get cut off when box it, but the canvas is so fun to work with... Tell me what you guys think.
Image... WARNING it's HUGE

Looking really nice dude, but I think you should add some blur to the mountains edge, then it wouldn't clash with the logo behind it...
-
Thanks for the feedback! :] I'll try it and see how it turns out.
-
Well it came out okay, but it kind of takes away from the cRdboarx cutout type design. Idk if I'll keep it, but thanks for the suggestion Felipe.
