GOOD NEWS, Capcom apparently said it's not Cannon as in there may be another Devil May Cry?

Also, Did anyone notice the patch of white hair on the new Dante's head?

If you watch one of the Trailers at YouTube look at the somke at 1:48 (and further) and you see that it forms a "5"
I think that's pretty strange since it is supposed to be a reboot.

I noticed the white patch. That's even more idiotic than just black hair in my opinion.

Do you have a source for Capcom saying this isn't canon?

I feel they should have continued where 4 left off instead of making some other story.

Again I am not sure of it, it's been poping around on wikis and comments.

I don't think so. Do you think they wanted to show Dante smoking on top of a statue(?!)
Or maybe to show of the scenery???

I am deeply convinced that this was ment to be

I see it. Reminds me of how Capcom had hidden the mission numbers in the opening cutscenes of DMC3.
It is indeed a precious gift to understand the forces that guide oneself.

I really don't think they will have two canons running at the same time.

According to something I read on N4G, the Devil May Cry creator isn't happy about the new Dante either.

I hope Ninja Theory changes him, but knowing them they'll probably just go off about how hard it is to make PS3/360 games and then complain about Heavenly Sword sales.

Wait, I thought the original DMC series was discontinued at 4.

I thought DMC was quite popular in the West? But if this is the case, and they're trying to branch out, game developers should stick to their own local fanbase and style. Should the game appeal to someone outside of that fanbase, then it's all good. When developers try to force games to appeal to different audiences... they usually suck. They ruin the classic game components, story and formulas. Then again, they're just businesses at the end of the day.

I am disappointed in this news, also.

I just read an interesting little article on Kotaku which got some reactions from Hideki Kamiya, father of the Devil May Cry series.

Not exactly a suprising reaction. I would be pretty sad if someone did this to one of my artistic visions.

It could always be worse. You could be a fan of Sega's Yakuza series, and discover the next game in development for it is about zombies.
    Best part, it's 100% canon.

True, that is pretty bad. I feel for Yakuza fans. But I think that after playing Heavenly Sword, a clumsy God of War clone, I'm not expecting this to be good. I'm already incredibly turned off visually.

Though if it wasn't supposed to be my beloved Devil May Cry that they were trying to pass this off as, I might be more accepting. It just doesn't look or feel like Devil May Cry so far.

They've never said that. If anything the original DMC series still has a lot to be filled in, like the ending of DMC2 (which takes place last, chronologically)

Yeah, I can definitely feel you with that one. It seems most of the Japanese franchises that get passed onto Western developers (which has got to be close to 90% of the recent installments we've seen); go awry. At the very least, the Yakuza of The Dead game is being done by the same people. Also, I can't wait to be disappointed with whatever the hell they release as Splatterhouse soon.

I don't get why they would reboot the series. I'm sick of reboots. I can sort of understand for games from the PS2 and XBOX and stuff, but Devil May Cry has already made its way to the PS3 and 360, so I don't get why it needs a reboot now. No one asked for it.

To be fair, Yakuza is nowhere NEAR as popular as Devil May Cry, nor does it have a lead character as iconic as Dante. Dante is one of the badassest badasses of modern gaming. I don't even know the guy from Yakuza's name.

That trailer at TGS was absolutely ridiculous. I didn't even know what I was looking at...

I'm playing Yakuza 3 and I approve zombies.
