To be fair, Yakuza is nowhere NEAR as popular as Devil May Cry, nor does it have a lead character as iconic as Dante. Dante is one of the badassest badasses of modern gaming. I don't even know the guy from Yakuza's name.

I still don't know what to think of this whole thing, but I will give Capcom the benefit of the doubt and hope they don't screw things up too badly. After all, this is just one teaser trailer, and for all we know, all of that was just proof of concept.

I've talked with a few people here and there, most of them are enraged, some are a little more open about the change. I'm on the fence until I see what he can really do.

• Look at "the new" Dante again. He got dark hair, but white highlights. The higlights seem to increase during the trailer -> transformation into the white-haired guy we know?
• Dantes natural haircolor seems to be black anyways. Look at his eyebrows and stubble
• Could be a very young Dante - before DMC3
• The clothing is somewhat similar to Neros, they just switched the colors. Nero: black hoodie, red coat. New Dante: red hoodie, black coat

Well, I don't believe that. Their hairs are similar (but not identical), but to me that's either pure coincidence, or some joke. Besides: Why do you complain about the designer having someting in common with his creation? Pikmin was made 'cause Miyamoto likes gardening. Link was lefty, because Miyamoto is one too. Hideo Kojima put himself into Peace Walker... Why do you complain about it now? Because it's DMC? That's weak.

Dante was about 19 in Devil May Cry 3, this new guy doesn't look younger, he looks a bit older and completely different.

First off, labeling new Dante as gay or emo doesn't work for me personally either, for different reasoning. I think those labels don't even fit him. Now, calling him a drug addict, that's a different story.

As for my take on this. I'm totally on the fence now that I've had time to think on this. But the comparisons you've made hold little water for me.

Snake: He has physically changed because he aged. That is explained, and it makes sense. He's still the same man, just older.

James Bond: As mentioned, that is a completely different spectrum.
Besides, as an outsider to the Bond films such as myself, I do find that a bit annoying. Same thing for the Batman films, except the outsider part.

With Link, the hair color isn't an issue to many because it's not a drastic change. Now, if he had blue hair covering one eye and now wore a long green coat instead of his trademark tunic, that would have caused some upset.

But there are valid things that make me mad about this project. Capcom USA went to Ninja Theory and basically told them to design something that they knew would upset longtime fans.

Also, regarding Dante's hair color, it's naturally white. It's common in Japanese character design to have outlandish hair color and more natural colored eyebrows and/or facial hair. However, I do feel the new game will end up with him having his white hair, as you suggested.

My biggest fear is one I will have to wait and see about, and the biggest reason I can't get behind it just yet. The gameplay. All I know of Ninja Theory is Heavenly Sword, a somewhat inferior clone (in my opinion) of God of War. I don't see how they will be capable of creating a game with the speed and grace of Devil May Cry. His "sword" in the teaser confused the hell out of me.

I also don't like the fact that he smokes like a chimney. It just seems to be saying smoking is cool. But that's a personal issue I have with it.

However, I am on the fence about this, as I mentioned. Hopefully, this will grow into something the fans and newcomers alike can enjoy. I'm just not holding my breath on that.

what you (almost everyone) don't get: There's a shitload of options WHY he looks like that! It can be a young Dante, it can even be possible "Dante" is just some kind of alias (if you're not comfortable with 007 take XXX or someting similar), etc.

THIS Dante could be the same too. He could be younger, he could have changed his hair (he already did! his hair is different in dmc 3 and 4), etc.. Do you know for sure? I don't... and you don't either!

But it is at DmC here! The first drastic change you notice is his hair and that's what a lot of people complain about. Almost 90% of the comments are "at least give him white hair". And Dante did change his clothing in DMC2 already without causing drama! Even Jill Valentines new look didn't cause that drama. And that sure was drastic!!!



See? It's more black on the front! He even got a diffrent look in DMC3 - almost half naked. This did not cause a new worldwar.

As for the smoking... Chris Redfield started to eat anabolica 24/7 and it didn't cause that much of a ruckus. So it seems it cool to use drugs and such crap if you are a Capcom-Charakter.
