Default [BW and Del337er]Star Fox 64 Reborn

*This is now a collab with Del337er*

Basically got the inspiration from this mess of a box I just got through making haha. I just thought I should do SOMETHING with the concept since I spent so much time working on it. It just seemed wrong to scrap it. Anyway, this is what came out of it. As you can see, I am using custom art for this. Not because I want to look cool cause I can make custom stuff, but because hi-res images of Star Fox characters in useable poses just don't exist. Del is working on the logo right now, and should be getting it to me by tomorrow. That will go in front of the renders similarly to what I was doing in the Kingdom Hearts box. I do plan to have something else going on in the front, but I want to finish the rest before I decide. The two renders next to Fox and Falco are placeholders. I will draw them out tomorrow. Other than that, pretty much everything is done. As you can see, the template design is a bit odd. I hate how limited the workspace is on a Wii template, so I drew this up from an existing PS2 template. In all, 1000+ layers have gone into this, and I still have a few more to go. Sounds fun, right? Anyway, critiques and comments welcome.

I really don't like the green. Maybe you could change it to a dark purple?

Should there be a line through the center of Slippy's head?

I'm also not feeling the green background. Lastly, try out some textures for the characters, so they don't feel so flat.

I really don't like this gimmick with people not using actual templates, it's starting to get to me.

This, also some better shading would make them pop out more, especially near the faces. I take it you are still going to draw slippy and peppy? Btw your logo is almost done, i just got backed up because of some personal issues.

Are you really that much of a dumbass? Read my first post. I don't like how limited the official template is as far as work space on the back. Now really. Would you rather:

A: My box look smooshed or incomplete due to limited workspace
B: My box look full and complete with a slightly different look on the template.

How the hell is that a "gimmick"?

If worded differently, your post might not have pissed me off so much.

Alright. I'll play around with the hue on the background, and work on the shading of the characters. Any idea where I could get some good, subtle fur textures for them? Maybe a scale texture for when I make slippy?

And yeah haha it would look kinda weird with the official renders, so they are definitely being recreated

Hey, hey, I'm not trying to start a fight here.

I did read your first post, I understand your reason, but more or less directing this to the website, I'm just getting tired of seeing it, even though your reason seems justifying, and your reason isn't, (I'm so complex and different because I chose to think outside of the box, by not using a template, my ego is just so untouchable, and I am superior to fools who use actual templates and ESRB logos, etc.)

Hmm they still need more shading, they look flat :/ Not gradients, but shading by hand with a few soft brushes.

Hmm brushes really arent my thing. Any other method I could use to get a similar effect?

Hmm not really :/ Only Beveling, but that only works with simple shapes, not complex images like these.

Update on the front. Once Del gets on MSN we'll brainstorm on ideas for how to fill in the empty space

The eyes you have look very odd. I would suggest making the edges hard as opposed to feathered.

Please read the first post. Also, del's supposed to be making them look less flat. He's really good with that sort of thing.

Just Fox and Slippy. Falco looks fine because his eyes are darker.

Looking swell dude, can't wait for the back! It's so cool how a lot of you folks make custom boxarts!
