    Default Whoomps Collected WIP-thread

Felt like I needed one of these.

CURRENT WIP: PERFECT BLUE >>latest update<<

Let's begin! Maybe the WIP-forum will be over saturated with Final Fantasy XIII already but I have been working on this for a while and I want to showcase my progress while I gather my thoughts about how to proceed. And who knows, maybe I will get some great tips? It's up to you

There is more than meets the eye on this small preview (about 25% of normal size), there has been a lot of color work put into it especially the Lightning render which was pretty gray and bleak to begin with. Another tricky part so far have been to remove Lightning from the original art to replace her with the new one so I hope that my clone stamping isn't too obvious (of course, you can't tell now since it's so small ^_^'). The spine is tentative and I am planning on doing something more fun with it. The back is also somewhat of a question-mark, the only thing that is set in stone is the render (since it took some time to render the damn thing :P).

    Moving on...

The next thing I am working on is Urusei Yatsura.

I thought I had a great idea with this one and therefore redrew Lum from this piece of art (again, the original file is much bigger). But when I was finished with that and the star I put it on the shelf since if I where to proceed it would require lots and lots of redrawing, something which at that point I wasn't up to at all. This will be an on-off project with updates now and then.

The FFXIII box is very awesome so far, the front looks perfect. The only thing I would probably do is make the logo stand out a little more. On the back, I like the box you used for the screenshots and text, but it looks a little empty towards the left and right of the back. I guess you could add some ratings or quotes there. I'm not familiar with Urusei Yatsura so I'm not really sure if I could give a good critique, but it does look nice so far.

I love the back, but it does look a bit empty on right and left sides though I am not sure what you can add there without making it look cluttered because imagining so it does look like it'd be cluttered. As for the front, I think you've done a great job replacing Lightening with another render of her, the only thing is that she IS standing out of the crowd, she looks more colorful than the BG, she looks brighter if you know what I mean.

Btw, what's the name of the font you used for the tagline?

It's the emptiness I am having trouble with, I don't want to clutter it but I also don't want it to look empty. I moved the Lightning-render down a bit in the second version and I am thinking about adding in the dragons and airship to be about the gradient middle plate instead. I do want to integrate more characters but how to do that is another issue. I was thinking about having portraits of them using something similar to the screenshot borders. Is that a bad idea?

I actually desaturated everything, to some degree, other than Lightning to make her stand out more and since she is closer to the "viewpoint" I think it makes sense.

    The font is called slider.

The FFXIII box made me actually say ''holy shit'' out loud.

This has not happened in a long time.

That sounds incredibly creative, I think using portraits would work very well, and it wouldn't clutter it up. Using a similar type of border for the screenshots would look really nice.

The back looks good but I have no suggestions on how to fix the empty sides.

Thanks a lot guys! I played around a whole lot until I realized that the center-block wasn't going to work with the other design elements (and believe me, I tried :P), so I moved it and actually liked the way it turned out so I decided to post it right away:

Pretty much this, except that's my reaction to about all of Whoomp's designs.

Edit: Finished FF13 design looks great!

    NEW WIP: Perfect Blue

My tribute to the recently deceased Satoshi Kon. Artwork traced from this.My idea is that there are going to be more thorn out articles in the background.

I like it so, specially after you've added a paper beneath the logo. Can't see anything wrong with it, really nice looking.

That's looking really good, are you going to add more torn paper? It really adds a lot to the box.

Thanks! Yes I planned on putting more thorn paper on there and here is the result:

It still need a few tweaks but I think I am finished with the overall design so I will proceed to the back now.

You're talent is ridiculous, Whoomp. You're one of my favorite artists on this site.

Agreed, that looks phenomenal. I can't wait to see what you have for the back.
