Crysis (PC Demo, soon to be full game)
+ Come to think of it, I think this is the world's most scalable game. From Intel HD to NVidia Geforce GTS450s.
+ Graphics are really good, especially the environment physics (Trees/nearly everything else can be destroyed)
+ The sandbox nature of the game is not blatently staring you in the face, but there is a lot of options about tackling missions.
+ The nanosuit makes for a newer 'not CoD' FPS experience, with the modes and stuff
+ Weapon customisation. I love the customisation system, you can put all the things you love onto your favourite gun.
    - I don't know whether it's just my aim, but most of the bullets I fire never hit anything and I lose more ammo than the kills are worth.
    - Not sure whether it's just me, but stealth mode doesn't work and enemies see right through it and fire at me regardless of how slowly and quietly I approach the enemies. And this is the first mission.

Regardless of the issues, this is better than CoD6, not as good as CoD4, but I love it anyway - 9/10

    X-Men Destiny - 3/10

Bought it at 10am this morning at Game. Beat it by 4pm this afternoon at home.

I got home at 11am after purchasing Fifa 12, Bulletstorm, Bully aka Canis Canem Edit (PS2) and X-Men Destiny. Spent a good amount of cash but also used my bonus points (of which I have over £250) to buy half of X-Men Destiny whilst paying £15 rather than £30.

I put it into my 360, chose my character on the selection screen... 4 hours 50 minutes later I was looking upon the credit sequence.

It has no multiplayer nor any co-op mode. Little-to-know replay ability, the campaign is short, the gameplay is boring and the characters in all honesty, aren't that interesting.

I think Activision merely attempted to make a little bit of cash off of X-Men First Class by releasing a game a few months after the movie which got a few people interested in the series. Well, that's all it is. A cheap, knock-on-the-door with no answer plastic piece of crap that seemed to be glued together using a pritt stick.

The only "destiny" this game has is a quick trip back to the shelf of my local Game store while I can still get my money back.
    Signatures are lame.
Hence why I don't have one.
    Because I'm awesome.

Common FPS games however, such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo and Homefront are 1) Generic, 2) Best used for multiplayer mode (biggest gimmick in gaming) and 3) No story worth two cents.

But then again, I'm more suited to 3rd person cover-based shooters (Gears, Mass Effect) then I am FPS shooters. FPS games are fun, but surely, after an entire year of developing it they could come up with a decent storyline and a campaign that lasts a little more than 4-5 hours. An 8-10 hour campaign like MoH: Frontline for example, that game should be the standard for the new generation FPS games. If they were like Frontline I wouldn't mind at all.
FPS =/= Call of Duty style shooters. BioShock is completely, 100% a first-person shooter.

I understand that. But my idea of an FPS game are those crappy, boring and generic games like the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3.

Bioshock is a unique game, it has RPG elements and an open world to explore. Standard FPS games are pretty much just run and gun, survive the mission and cut to next scene where you do the same thing again.

In Bioshock, you have an option. You carry more than 2 weapons and it's... well... a lot more fun than MW2, Halo or Battlefield could ever be.

I agree, but I do find Halo enjoyable. It has some original aspects for an FPs (well it did till everyone and their dogs copied it). It actually has a story to follow. Solid characters and great sound effects and music. And the history built up around the game is incredible. I just dont have incredible hopes for Halo 4...

I'll say that Halo 1 and 2 were great. Halo 3 dropped the ball. ODST completely missed by being a full retail price of £39.99 for a boring "Kill an enemy, walk around the city for half an hour" type game. Reach was way, way overrated by review companies such as IGN, Gameinformer etc.

Halo 4 on the other hand could either be a refreshing uplift to a "should be dead and buried" franchise or it could just be another nail in the coffin. Halo should have ended with Halo 3.

True.... 1 & 2 were the best. I enjoyed 3 but some bits were a bit off. ODST was good, but full price was a cheap attempt at money but was a nice change of pace. Reach was good too. I can't complain cause I got mine for £30 3 days after it was released. It just could have had more but less at the same time

And why has there never been a Civil War game after Custers Revenge? I know that wasn't recieved well... at all but still...

Comparing BF3 to 'every other modern war FPS' is such a retarded statement, it makes me cringe. Have you played BF3?

I've played 1 and 2 at friends and seen footage of 3. They all look the same to me. Slightly different HUD and a different brown filter over it but it's all the same

I must be thinking of Bad Company. Still. Run of the mill army FPS with nothing original. It's all 'land here > kill the foreigners > end of level'

Just download the beta. It only takes like 10-15 minutes to download, so what's there to lose?

Mainly the fact I hate modern war games. They all have the same flimsy plot and just want to be an online only game. That and I need me remaining 4GB for RE4

Battlefield has been primarily multiplayer-focused since it's inception in 2002, so you can't really place blame on it for that.

The Binding of Isaac - 8.5/10

Extremely disturbing, graphic, and strange, but in the best possible way. It's a ton of fun to play and it's easy to jump into it. Beware, though: it's extremely difficult.

    I highly recommend it if you're a fan of dual-stick shooters and/or rogue-likes and/or Zelda.

    PORTAL 2 | 9.5/10*

+ Improved on everything since the original Portal: puzzles, length, graphics, sound, story, etc.
    + Wheatley

    - Frequent and slow loading times

    * I have not tried co-op yet. Score is based on single player only.

    RAGE

Ah, here I am again, with a good fallout game no where in sight and the possibility of a re-release slim to fuckall, here I am sitting with RAGE. Rage is a First-Person-Shootem-Role-Playing-Explorey-Fuckall-Simulation by id software, now if you are a dreaded child and wrong id was a developer that's history is sort of like a rockstar, they release a bunch of hit albums inspiring many young hairy bags of acne and grease or "teenagers" to go into development or get into gaming, then they get addicted to cocaine, do a few horrid world tours and release shit. Then they try to make a comeback and sell their soul to sata- I mean Bethesda.

Yes, RAGE is published by Bethesda but it has all the staples and trademarks of a Bethesda game, it features a vast plain of fuckall, forgettable characters and -ofcourse- glitches that they will always need to patch.

RAGE's story is heavily inspired by Fallout, and by inspired I mean, it called over fallout for a few drinks, slipped some roofies in it's drinks and dragged it down to it's rape and torture dungeon. If it tried to be more "inspired" by it, it'd be listed as grade A plagiarism. So let me give you a summary: "In the news of impending Nuclea- erm.. I mean Meteor strikes, the government of the USA initiates the vaul- ARK program. After the earth is obliterated in an orgy of death and explosions, the survivors emerge and bring humanity anew. You wake up some 100 years later after being frozen and not catching hypothermia, somehow. We follow him as he is attacked by Rai- bandits" and after this point I realize "Oh shit, I bought borderlands again."

Rage is the type of game that doesn't know what it wants to be. Does it want to be a serious shooter with compelling storytelling, or a ridiculous over the top fancy pants shooter. Whatever it wants to be, it confuses the player. Though the plus side is that id gave us one hell of a spectacle, the scenery is so well drawn and vivid it takes it's place at the same level as porn. Then the textures decide not to load and give me turnip monsters and I go back to reality and understand that this comes from Bethesda's anus. As for the shooting, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't impressed by the gun mechanics and the general control and whatnot. It's spot on. Especially the animation, it seems they had time to animate each limb and I remember the good old days when id was a developer that made games for the hell of it.

Now I'd go on and on about how in depth the story is or how the quests aren't that fun. But to be honest I didn't play that far in the game. Rage is a good shooter, no questions about it. But it's entirely forgettable and not interesting enough for someone to carry on with the story. So I give it a Seven out of Ten; Because I am a fucking idiot.
