Haven't seen Super 8, but since seeing Source Code i have wanted to see it again and again, it's a really good 'feel-good' movie which quickly and entertainingly passes time

Fucking punching myself for missing Fellowship, but the last film I saw in theaters was the extended edition of The Two Towers.

I've always felt like it was the weakest of the trilogy, and Peter Jackson mentioned that in a new intro he recorded on set of The Hobbit. He said that there's an engaging beginning (Fellowship is my favorite of the trilogy) and a strong ending, but the middle was the hardest to construct. The Two Towers is simply depressing, grim, and hard to really appreciate. The battle of Helm's Deep is beyond words, but for me, that is really the highlight of the film. There's not much else that I can really say grabs me in the film... The strife in Rohan is slow and, again, pretty depressing, but it really does feel like a bridge between Fellowship and Return.

With all that negativity, I will say it has two of the strongest shots in the entire trilogy. The first is when Saruman's army stands waiting in Isengard, and Wormtongue stands in awe while a single tear streams down his cheek. Something about that gives me a massive case of goosebumps... The second is when they are preparing for battle at Helm's Deep, and they begin arming young boys. That's the sad truth about war... Any able-body men may end up having to fight to protect their families and home.

Even if I sound bitter about it, it's god damn Lord of the Rings and I can't hate it at all. Clocking in at 3 hours and 40 minutes, it seemed a little long since there was.... A lot of coverage leading up to the final battles of Return of the King. I also have tickets for that one on Tuesday, and hot shit am I ready for it.

    Source Code - 9/10

Finally got around to watching it. It was a great movie, and if only (SPOILERS)there was some mindfuck plot twist where the Captain wakes up and gets to live in real life by the help of robot legs/torso, but the whole living in alternate reality thing is a great ending too. It must be weird though since every time you look in the mirror you see someone else. But then again, only the audience watching him knew he looked different.(END SPOILERS)

Nicely worded summary of the movie, my thoughts are similar. Of course, I loved all three, but Fellowship and Return of the King were definitely stronger films. Speaking of which, I need to re-watch this trilogy sometime soon.

The Blu Ray of the extended editions comes out on Tuesday

Plus, to just give an idea of that release, each film is STILL on two discs. From what I've heard, it's marvelous. I believe it's a 15 disc set as well...

I find it very impressive that the CGI used on Andy Serkis to make Gollum is better than most CGI today. And it was over eight years ago.

To put the whole trilogy into perspective, it'll be a decade this winter since Fellowship was released in theaters... Between that and almost the 20th anniversary of Jurassic Park, I feel slightly old...

Amazon has it for $50 off the regular price. It's so tempting...

    Cars 2 - 5.5/10

It was alright. There were some really funny moments, but the plot was kind of a mess and it was all rather predictable. It didn't have the magic of Pixar's other films.

I find Blade Runner to be the most impressive. 29 years since release and it still looks better than most modern films.

    Super 8 - 9/10

I love Abrams, his work is so enjoyable. Surprisingly great acting all around, very believable, plus Charles and Cary had their fare share of humorous moments. And of course, Giacchino. The moment I heard his work in the beginning, I started to miss Lost again. The man's compositions are stunning.
