Default The VGBA Halloween Box Design Event - Round 1

    Greetings!

Here are the general details I'll be putting into effect for all 3 planned round of this event:

.A complete front and back is required for all entries.

.Any available template is find to use, just follow standard VGBA
courtesy and credit the template's creator on your design.

.I'd prefer it if you can upload your box after I post you and your opponent's round. If we can keep the designs under wraps
until the actual match thread, I believe people will get more interested in voting then.

As a prize for the overall winner of the event, I'll be sending you a brand spanking new
"Scareperson" t-shirt that I had recently printed over at the shirt.woot site. It's perfect for
    celebrating Halloween without a costume!

ROUND 1: OLD SCHOOL HORROR FILMS:

For the first round of this special Halloween event, I'd like to see you guys go back to the roots of the Horror Cinema genre, and design a box for a horror film that was released prior to 1990. Doing a search for your movie of choice for this round on www.imdb.com
would be a great place to start, as it will give you a usually detailed synopsis of the film, as well as potentially provide links to other sites for artwork and other media.

Any of the quite infamous and classic Universal movie monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf Man) are good examples, as are any of the number of slasher films that dominated the genre during the 80's. (Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, etc.).
The underground horror of the Grindhouse era of cinema had some of the most amazing posters for films as well. Some of which are just begging to be creatively implemented into an awesome box art.

The only requirement other than the subject matter, is that I'd like you to design your boxes as if they were recently re-released into the current market. Taglines and blurbs such as "REMASTERED DIGITAL TRANSFER, THE CULT HIT THAT SHOCKED THE WORLD, and FIRST TIME ON DVD" would be some of the possibilities I'd like to see on your design.

Also, feel free to create your design as either a DVD or Blu-Ray format movie.

    MATCHUPS:

I created the match ups to be as fair as possible. If you think I've squared you off against someone unfairly, please let me know and I'll do my best to make alterations.

    Death
    vs. Geno
    stevencho vs. Hawt Es
    Ayron vs. Jevangod
    XCore vs. Mad Spike
    Pan vs. Silent Oblivion
    tat76 vs. SilentMan101
    Zelda152 vs. Delicious1
    Ervo vs. master general
    Halfswiss vs. Roza
    Enchanter vs. clink
Eggboy'13 vs. super mega hyper sonic

    Potential Fill ins.

(Artists here will be contacted in order if a currently signed up artist can no longer compete in the contest. There is no obligation if your name is on this list, as this is just out of courtesy and further attempts at keeping things as organized as possible.)

    afifan000

Please submit your design to me via PM by Friday, October 9th. As I mentioned in the sign up thread, I'd like the contest to run strong through October, and have an overall winner on Halloween. Taking this into consideration, please be as timely as possible with your designs.

Thanks again guys, and if there's any question about the contest in general, or this specific round, drop them on in the thread, and I'll get right back to you.

Thanks again for signing up guys, and I can't wait to see what you come up with. Also, if anyone would like me to take a look at there design in progress for Round 1, please feel free to PM it to me.

So are you wanting the actual design to mimic the style of those older movies, and be really corny and old... or when you say re-released do you mean like completely re-done, and that we should take the character like Jason, or Frankenstein, or Dracula, and actually make the cover look like a more modern movie?

It'll be a box design for an old movie that will be currently released on dvd. Not a re-make concept. Basically the film your designing a box for will be the original, but with new packaging for it's re-release that is spiced up a bit for the current market.

This is a pretty good example to give you an idea:

This is the original box art for Friday The 13th Part 7:

Paramount recently re-released the films with new packaging on DVD.
this is the new box art for the same movie:

Oooo, ok. I see. Old movie, not necessarily old, black and white look. Do you have a preference for DVD vs. Blu-Ray?

So can we post our box whenever we want, or does it have to be after the ninth

What size will the shirt be? My UK size is S/M, although I'm not sure what size I will be in the American context.

@Koopa: You can do DVD or Blu-Ray whichever you prefer.

@Death: I'd prefer it if you can upload the box after I post you and your opponent's round. If we can keep the designs under wraps until the actual match thread, I believe people will be more interested in voting then.

Thanks guys. These are good questions I should have covered in my initial post. I've updated it accordingly.

@Xcore: The shirt will be an extra large American Apparel. As I had to order the shirt in advance, I figured that would be the most versatile size.

Yeah, I gotta admit, Drakxxx, that's a pretty epic shirt. I've gotten a lot of compliments from the Mario shirt I won in your Custom Art Comp. Every gamer I've met wants to know where they can buy it, and every non-gamer gives me that "What's WRONG with you?" look, so it's awesome.

Awesome man! I'm glad your liking it. I was estatic when that shirt got a print simply because I got to represent myself as a hardcore gamer via it's creation.

@GigaWolf: No problem! GigaWolf it is. I updated the signups.

Uh... Drak... Can we make a box for a newer version of the movie, like say.. Dawn of the Dead? It was released 1978 but there was a newer version of it in 2004... and its different than the first one, but can I still make a cover for it? Just asking....

    P.S.: Good Luck, Clink!

Also, I think that sending PM reminders helps a comp run smoothly, just a thought.
