The last time I was on it wasn't exactly thriving but it had a good community with talented designers who you could get help from in WIP threads, @Paper arranging competitions like 5-colour, and it was a good platform for newer designers to improve.

We just making porn and lego covers now? lol
As far as I know, everyone just sort of splintered away bit by bit. There was a discord server for a few of the old guard, but I'm not sure it's still around. I might've been kicked due to inactivity. Not much of a chat person.

This place did have a nice community, yeah. It was a niche community, but I liked that about it. And back when the place was in its prime you had people from all walks of life offerring different perspectives. I'd go as far to say this place helped me open my eyes to the world around me. It wasn't all about the boxart, there was something here. It was cool.

Unfortunately as we all grow older, time becomes more limited and interests change and suddenly you realise you don't really feel like critiquing fake videogame covers anymore. That's fair. That's just life. What's unfortunate about this is that nobody else picked up the baton. There was no 4th generation artists willing to dive into the niche (doesn't help that the rise of digital distribution put a massive stopper on the concept of boxarts either) to keep the place going.

It would be cool if some of the old guys came around and let us know if they're active anywhere else. ADFD posted his youtube page a while back I saw, and I've seen Scorpion Soldier on Resetera (where you'll find me too!). Even just a twitter handle or something.

I've had several good experiences on deviantart. It's just a matter of avoiding the cringe.

I met my ex girlfriend on deviantART in 2011 and I was with her for 4 years (and went to Australia 4 times to see her, so I guess that's a bonus) but yeah, you do have to kind of tip-toe through a minefield of cringe haha.

You need to be more specific about who you're talking about. From my knowledge I know that those who have been banned have been due to level boosting (by creating multiple accounts and faving themselves), stealing, language, and/or porn. There is also other instances, such as straight up fighting/cussing/challenging a mod.

Ladykiller once banned me because I was making fun of mods for being inactive on the site.

He banned me and then didn't post again for weeks IIRC.

That's hilarious. E_G was also very emotionally driven, iirc

VGBA needs more emotionally unstable mods.

Yeah man, thank fuck all that garbage has gone.

Also, it's a refreshing change, as good as Frank's Vice City cover is, to see a new HOF cover dominating the homepage. Especially a cover that's not a fucking Max Payne image with a gradient map and topaz clean..

I need to know, is Reed still here? Just by noticing some covers and comments being deleted from the site I'm starting to think he still watches over and still gives a shit.

Randomly logged in here for whatever reason and yeah, this is pretty spot on. I used to be pretty frequently active here back in the day and it wasn't just for sharing our work in graphic design, box arts, etc. The community was small but tight. It helped me grow as an artist in many ways and while I don't really mess with box art anymore I still draw and create art pretty regularly.

I feel like the natural order of migration was VGBA to GAF. Obviously that place fucking imploded though so Resetera sorta took over. That's where I'm most active.

sd1833 / Pleiades here by the way

i think the community killed itself honestly, the forums became so threatening to new people and none of the old school artists really gave a shit about the new guys.I'm trying to change that right now. In fact, I have seen 3 new people start uploading boxes somewhat regularily and for this site that's a big number. It would have been a big number back in it's prime.
