Indeed. However, you DO have to run something before just using the standard Apple Software Update to update to 10.6.8. I can't remember what it was though :/

Yeah, it's hell getting OS X installed but in the end I'd say it's worth it. You shouldn't have as much trouble with the retail DVD.
