I'm raised as a Catholic - baptised/first Holy communion etc - but to be honest neither parents or I are practising Catholicism, eg we don't really visit Church and all that. It is a common thing over here to be like that I guess. Thing is where does one base it's religion on? To what higher power one prays too? On one's upbringing, one's morals, one's thoughts, on norms and values? Catholicism/Protestantism has been the main religion here since the Romans visited in the Ancient times so ye ofc there's a lot of norms and values here to be considered normal based from them. But to be honest if I take other religions in to the equation one will find most likely more Buddhist-based thoughts in me than Catholic-based. I'm not of opinion having a religion eliminating the other's philosophies, religions where initially for giving people a direction to live for and some base rules to follow - to teach people something - so why stop learning?

My point being even though it was just a theory at the time it wouldn't be discarded on first glance and people might not have had the means to prove this theory other than by Aristarchus' own work. On a (just slightly relevant) note to contribute to this point: The Pythagorean theorem is considered to be true for ages I believe, yet still new proves are being added today to prove it fits all cases - most likely to exclude any unique case for a Reductio ad absurdum.

PS. I'd call common ignorance the believing of the mass of - let's name them - 'fake facts' where is proven, or known by few, the truth already and their believe in those 'facts' just soley based on each others believe. Seeing this definition might apply to a Geocentric theory.
Though I'm not too keenon the point you've made on the proposition of the Heleocentric theory being looked at as completely foolish. Ancient Greek scientists were really respected - even some of nowadays science, but also believes (this as a note to 'Alpha' scientists as philosophers), lay grounds for modern Western society and science - they set a high standard amongst themselves and Aristarchus was considered on of them by them.

I didn't really say the Church was against science did I? I said Church vs. Science implying they've crossed blades in some moments over the course of history, nor did I deny any contribution to science by Catholics :P Just said they weren't seeing eye to eye on curtain matters at curtain times.

And fighting the Church/Catholicism/Christianity fits the whole Assassin part of the whole series, knowing where the name comes from. (See here, second definition.)

Wouldn't really call it common ignorance, see Copernicus wasn't the first one to present this theory, Aristarchus of Samos (who lived in ca. 250 BC) already presented a Heliocentric model of the solar system.

With the bookpress situation I meant the Inquisition monitoring and censoring the printing of books, when the printing press just came to be. Sorry for not having the right word there right away (not a native speaker of the English language). There's also a lot of knowledge lost or at least it became rare, so to say, with books being burned when Kings and Queens burned books contradicting Catholic believes when they conversed to Catholicism (eg. Recared the first Catholic King of Spain.)

I decided to wait until I get a PS3 to play it, my backlog is pretty full right now

Though Catholicism is more based on the New Testament, Jesus' life, the Old Testament laid it's foundation for its norms and values. And last time I checked it was still part of the Bible.

totally forgot about that one, yet there were some mixed theories not to log ago, interpreting the Bibles timestamp, like 7 days to create the Earth, rather as relatives than as absolutes.

There's an other small argument I can think off is the whole bookpress situation.

In response: I wasnt saying the church had something against science in general. They did in some cases and quite extreme tbh, take Copernicus around 1500 what he had suggested based on theoretical physics went against the bible and the church stepped in. Same with Gallileo. Freemasons were asociated with various orginasations enabling scientists to meet up and discuss their studies and researches without interferrence of the church.

edit: rethinking gallileo got in trouble posting copernicus' works so it's just one example..sorry bout that.. Cant think of any more just from the top of my head.

    grtz, R.
