Unfortunately, your friend is true don't be surprised if you learn as much in your few weeks as you have the past 3-4 years, but it will be worth it. I actually haven't "lived" in Japan for a number of years, but my family house is in さいたま市 (in Saitama province ) - I get to go at least once a year, and it is very close to Tokyo which is nice.

I wasn't aware you were 14 and that only adds to my amazement that you were able to remain this dedicated for so long. You must really love Japan, it makes me so happy to see that you obviously have many more years of learning to go, but you also have a lot of time...the sakura trees are absolutely beautiful, you must make time to visit Okinawa one time or another and attend 花見 (cherry and ume blossom ceremony...see, you learn a little every day ) when you go. There is nothing more perfect in the world, it brought me to my knees the first time I was able to view it.

I just looked up textfugu and I really don't think you can get better than that unless you have paper resources. Is there any possibility of you going to Japan before you move permanently? I learned the majority of my English from school, internet and TV but the ultimate refining of the language (although obviously I'm still not 100% fluent,) only happened after I was allowed to spent a summer in Canada, then eventually move to Seattle. If you have the opportunity during your spring or summer breaks, you should come for sure!

1) Wow, seems like you're learning a lot at once xD my japanese is actually a lot shittier than it used to be, moving over here made me lose almost all contact with your culture because as with your case, there are very few Japanese people (I have only met 3 in one year ) But if youre starting over, I would definitely learn 平仮名 first. After you have a good grip on the language, THEN i would move to 片仮名.

2) Now my education was a bit messed up because chinese is tecjnically my first language (although I have almost no contact with the language anymore,) so I started with 片仮名 first. But by all means, a standard progression would be 平仮名, then 片仮名 and finally 漢字. In fact, I am incredibly shocked that you were progressing with 漢字 the whole time...that takes a will of steel! Hell, I even had problems with it

But really, please keep at it...the road is tough but the end result will be fantastic I will always be available for contact here as well, so never hesitate if you need help. I know firsthand how frustrating learning a new language can be, but I have full faith that you will succeed

こちらこそ よろしく What nationality are you from? I think it's commendable that you are learning japanese, it sure takes a lot of effort. Keep working at it though...there were times when I wanted to just give up on learning english (glad I didn't,) but if you're going through a rough phrase then it never hurts to take a day or two off from your subject.
