I've got both a Desktop and a Laptop (the Laptop is my girlfriends). I'm not too sure what the laptop runs, i think its a Centrino of some sort, 3GBRAM, 256MB graphics card, 200GB HDD running Windows Vista Home Premium.

My Desktop is:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q4800 2.66GHz (4 CPU)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 512MB graphics card
8GB RAM
Seagate 200GB HDD (its ancient but still works - i did have a 500GB HDD too but it shat itself. I also have a 500GB and a 1TB external HDD too)
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Samsung 22inch SyncMAster 2232bw LCD monitor
Logitech speakers w/ sub
Standard Microsoft mouse and keyboard.

I haven't upgraded my PC in over 2 years now, but it still runs Photoshop, After Effects etc. with ease and is still pretty quick too, so i'm in no rush. When i did build i though it cost me about $800 all up for all the hardware (monitor excluded).

Ah i see. A new GFX card would be a good idea then. I personally leave the games tot he PS3 and the design to the PC, so i can get away with not having to have a kick ass graphics card. I gave up on PC gaming a while ago, it can be an expensive exercise if you don't have the proper know how, and your dad's friend sounds like he's the man to speak to about that. Its a fun hobby if you can be bothered with it though.

Thanks man, you're pretty good yourself! Hopefully with this new job being that its not creative in any way, shape or form, i can start putting some more boxes up. I have a ton of half finished ones that i'll try and get done, but first i need to get used to doing 10 hours a day!! :P

Hey, sounds pretty good. A new GFX card would be good down the track, although the Intel one will hold out pretty good. TBH though, if it does its job i'd leave it until it gets tot he point where it can't handle doing what it needs to do. I'd be more inclined to get some more RAM in there more than anything, you can never have enough RAM, although 4GB should be heaps for the time being. Core i5 is a good CPU, and your rating is pretty good too.

My rating is 5.3, let down severely by the HDD transfer speed. Everything else is in the 7 area. Damn 8 year old HDD!!

How are you finding Windows 7? Glad to see you've got a computer to yourself now too!

Very nice for the price do you know the model of the GPU (i.e. 1000, 2000, or 3000?).

Aha, this laptops fine really. Good display, nice keyboard layout, good build and can handle Resident Evil 5. so I'm happy with it. It was free too so even better.
