To be honest, i hope there isn't an 8th generation for a long, long while yet..
The Wii is still selling like mad everywhere, the PS3 hasn't even showed half of its full potential yet, and the Xbox 360 is an awesome console (if you can look past the hardware faults) which I hope can last longer than the original Xbox (in my opinion, it was put to rest way too early by Microsoft.)

I dissagree. The PlayStation 3 has shown its full potential, with LBP, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 coming out soon. XBOX 360 is a great console, but both consoles are merely the same, for now, until one glows us heavily, which I think the 360 will do soon with Fable 2, but hey LBP, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 are just around the corner.

Not to mention, that Mirror's Edge is being developed primarily for the PS3, then ported by external DICE teams. Thats why the PS3 version will get hefty DLC not on the other versions.

I don't think so. remember the PS2 and how it improved every year (for example GoW), it will be the same with the ps3.

I agree with Cerium, the only thing I don't agree with is "if you can look past the hardware faults" of the 360. It is not a case of looking past them, it's a case of having to get a new 360 every so often because it sucks big time how unreliable 360s can be.

I don't like it for the people to single out the PS3 as the one with potential, they all have a huge amount of potential. Just compare the late PS2 games with some of the earlier ones, we'll notice this same jump by the end of this generation.

All the eighth generation consoles will probably be like the Wii taking into account how far it is ahead of the competition.

I think we are bit eary for this. I don't think we will see a PS4, Xbox 3, another Nintendo system until 2013 or 2014 due to all three systems are having great sales and they don't want to end them soon.

I think we wont see an 8th gen for a looong time. With the consoles out right now selling at the rate that they are, i think the companies can just sit back and relax for a few years.

360, Wii and PS3 are making so much right now and they only been out for like a year or two. I think 2012 we will see a 3rd Xbox and in 2013 we will see another Nintendo system, and in 2014 we will see a PS4.

EGM said that PS4 will most likey be out by 2014 due the high prices of the PS3. It makes sense due to the PS1 had a long life time from 1995 - 2003. And the PS2 will most likey come to a end by 2010.

well, the PS2 is still being used, the wii is.. well, you guys already know the stuff id say about that, the PS3, I agree with Cerium, has still got lots to show the world, and the 360... will stay how it is for a while until something new comes up

What I REALLY want to happen is Sega to make a new console using virtual technology and photo-realistic graphics and awesome games and everything... then Sega becomes king of the gaming world again :p

Well the PS2 won't be dead until 2010 seeing that the PS1 had a life span of 8 years and the last game for the PS1 was NFL 04 (I think).

Really? I thought the last game made for the ps1 was that cruddy Dragonball battle 33 or something like that.

Anyway, yeah...ps1 has had a really long lifespan. Same thing with the ps2, hell...they've stop making games for gcn and the original xbox for awhile now and the ps2 still lives on. Not to mention, I'm still waiting for releases such as KH: Re CoM and Persona 4.

Guess we'll see how the ps3 lives up to the first two consoles' legacies, eh?

I mean wii can be improved but 360 and PS3 graphics are too good to be vamped up in my opinion. The only place i can image next is virtual reality.

Nope, there was a Hellboy game that cameout in Fall 2003 and a re release of some Gundam game.

There's always room for improvement, guys... Always.

I'd like to see retail games as DLC and bigger hard drives, along with NSM finally sucking it up and getting along with each other and putting in cross-platform play.

If anything there wont be a 8th generation for a long long time. I think they will do what they did with the PSP and make a better version but not a new one. The 360 has trouble making a reliable system which I think they will make a new one maybe like they did with the elite that is a better console that will last longer. The PS3 is still new really. It is still trying to get a good collection of games going. The WII is still sold out everywhere. That thing is a beast when it comes to sells. If you can find a WII in 1 days worth of driving from store to store your lucky. The WII has been doing good and there is no reason to put the money into a new console until this generation is owned by most gamers and sells start to drop fast. I say 2012 is the next new console.

2012 will most likey be where we will see the new next console at E3. I think 2013 or 2014 will most likey be the year when the PS3, Xbox 3 and the new Nintendo system comes out.

I dont know about a new console in 2012, i can see upgraded models but not new ones altogether. The 360 is doing great and could probaly use a upgraded model, the ps3 is new like everyone and the wii has incredible sales.
But seriously guys do you realy wanna play video games your whole life? 2 more years and ill be on my own, im not going to be buying the latest and greatest 2 years from now so im enjoying it while I can.

I know how, I didn't realize how huge it was.

Whoo... i remember last year October when I went away... the first thing I went to was EBGames (nerd xD) and then saw ONE box of Wii on the shelf. I stared like alittle kid in a candy store....

We could make timelines, like what I have attached, i'll be making a Wii and PS3 one soon. Just make your own and place them here.
