Check out this video of the upcoming Xbox Experience where you can create avatars for yourself. The demo feels SO much like the Mii creation process, it isn't funny. Even the little sounds and music in the background feel like they're lifted right from the Wii. C'mon Microsoft, how about something original instead of just keeping up with the Joneses.

Except the Xbox avatars look alot better, more customizable, more animated, more choice of proper clothing rather than just colour of the shirt. Nintendo's Mii system is basic beyond basic! At least Microsoft are prepared to go one step further and allow the user to do whatever they want with their character. Cant wait to wear that cowboy hat :D

Theres never been a better time to be a 360 owner, a whole new interface and style, Gears of War 2, Fable 2... Sonic Unleashed... *cough*

Agreed. It's a rip-off, you can't deny it, but it looks like a lot more fun.

why would you need customization like that, what are you playing the sims. copying an idea is out of desperation.

First Nintendo, then PS3, then 360. what Nintendo SHOULD be doing is working on an update to the Mii channel instead of shelling out all the crap games out right now... the 360 version is definitely a rip-off but still looks great.

Microsoft is a company based on rip-offs, just look at Windows, Zune, Mii Like avatars, Lips, You're in the Movies and Scene It.

They have a silmair conpect but it not a rip off. A rip off would be like something like Nii for the 360 where they look like the same as the Mii.

I dont think Sony invented quiz-like or karaoke games.
Rokudaime
09-21-2008, 10:35 AM
no, but they invented a great scoring system and interface with sing star. lips is a 1:1 copy of sing star.
with buzz sony invented a funny new input device. the scene it buzzer is also a 1:1 copy.
if microsoft would make a motion controller you would also say it's a wii rip-off although nintendo didn't invent motion controls.

Micrsoft cant do anything themselves, all they do is copy off of sony and nintendo and make an imporved version. Id like to see what they could come up with without them.

Again they have a simalir idea but it not a rip off. That like saying Spawn is a rip off of Ghost Raider or GH4 is a Rip off of Rock Band
Rokudaime
09-21-2008, 10:42 AM
GH4 is a Rip off of Rock Band
yes, I would say so.
the problem is microsoft isn't inventing anything new, they just copy things from others. then they make a big marketing campaign and everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
Cerium
09-21-2008, 10:46 AM
In the games industry, you can easily say everyone is copying everyone.
Did Xbox copy the Sega Dreamcast for having online play?
Did Sony copy Nintendo for having vibration and shoulder buttons?
Did Super Mario Galaxy copy Halo for having a game set in space....etc
The point is, almost every idea is being copied nowadays and I doubt its gonna stop anytime soon.

What? The people who made guitar hero helped make Rock Band you know, they had the idea first. -___-
Guitar hero = 1st
Rock band = 2nd

I'm not saying that the others aren't copying aswell but microsoft does it excessive.
just tell me one innovation microsoft made besides xbox live.
Guitar hero = 1st
Rock band = 2nd
Guitar Hero was developed by Harmonix Music Systems from 2005 to 2007 before development duties of the series were transferred to Neversoft. Now Harmonix are making Rock Band.
So imo GH4 is a Rock Band rip-off.

They used the same instrument but the gameplay for GH4 is differnet from Rock band. It has been confirmed that Line 6 will be allowing different sets of amplifiers to be used in Custom Songs mode and Rock Band does not have that in there gameplay.
And besides it not like every idea is 100% orignal, i mean every idea was inspired from another idea. Like Dragon Ball/Z/GT has the same ideas of Superman and Journey to the West, but later deviated from it.

True. I think Nintendo's screwed themselves. They had the chance to update/change before release but now that microsoft stole it and ran with it they can't really do anything. I mean, microsoft is showing ninty how it's done right now.

Nintendo can't do an update of that magnitude. The Wii doesn't have enough memory. Here's what I have always hated: Reggie Fils-Aime has the only Mii in the world with ears....it's not even an option on the Wiis, but he has it. Honestly, I'm glad this came out. This is a slap in the face to Nintendo to show that you can be casual without having facial features as limited as they have made them. I really hope they see this and do an update with more options. How about some ARMS AND LEGS?!? *Cough* anyway, while they're at it, why not a Player's Choice system so that Zelda TP isn't still $49.99?

That plus Microsoft was using the modern controller layout lonnggg before anyone else... Live Arcade is pretty innovative... Gamercards, friends lists, hard drives, the list goes on.
There's nothing new under the sun, guys; companies rip each other off all the time.

Oh yes, because there certainly wasn't a controller out in like, 1996 that had dual analog sticks, four shoulder buttons, and four face buttons...that would be silly.

Here's why I have a problem with Microsoft doing this:
Some of the loudest criticisms against Xbox Live have about it's lack of a "community" feel. It is certainly the most powerful player-to-player matching system on any console. It makes online multi-player a breeze and it is a platform standard for any game that offers multi-player. The scoring system, the voice communications and quickmatch features are great!
But, what it never really brings to the table is a fully immersing community experience. Microsoft knew for a while that they needed to extend Xbox Live to become more accessible with a broader range of communication options. It had to be the myspace or facebook of the gaming world. So, when they finally poured all of their market research and years of experience into a product to update Xbox Live and bring it screaming to the forefront of the console community experience, they made... higher-resolution Miis with better clothes.
I'm not debating whether these Xbox avatars will be fun or not. I'm sure they will be for a few weeks just like the Nintendo Miis were. What frustrates me is that Microsoft is touting this like it's the revolution in the console community that we've been waiting for. It's like they're admitting there is no new frontier to expand into. "What? You'd like an interactive profile page for your gamertag where you can post games and media that you're currently enjoying? You want a messaging system that actually allows you to do more than send a few lines of text? No, no, no. We think you'll enjoy these dress-up dolls a lot more."
I think Sony's Home shows the most promise at this point. Their "build your own trophy room" seems like the right way to go. Of course they're just ripping off SecondLife, but at least there's some strong social aspects to the design and implementation of Home. It's a lot better than just parading your Miis or sitting in a virtual livingroom to watch a TV show with other Xbox Avatars.

You can send more than a few lines of text anyway through Xbox Live. Either by a message or through MSN...

Not being a fanboy here but if the 360 controller is a modern design i'd prefer the PS design any day. Why have a completely new controller design if you can just improve a design that already works. To my taste the 360 controller is a little bit too big, when i play my 360 my hands hurt after like 4 hours, with my PS3 controller i don't have this problem.
How come my dashboard's not updated yet? Did they do it yet or do you have to update it yourself?
The update doesn't come out till next month.

Well the motion point on the PS3 is barely anything to think about. It almost isn't even there, there are only few games who support it. I tried it a few times, pretty cool but it isn't needed, besides Nintendo isn't the first company to have implented motion sensing, there has been motion sensing since somewhere in the 90's, it was less advanced but it was there.
