There are some midifications. There are more than this but ill just say a few. The ring on the back is a different texture, the home button on the front was replaced with the psp logo (which looks better to me), and the whole psp is made out of a whole different type of some sort of metal, and they also added asmall extra speaker beside the logo at the bottom.

It is essentially the same and i saw these days ago. the only differences are the Built-in Microphone and the Brighter more colorful screen, sure the ring on the back is smaller, but thats not really a difference/add-on :P also its the Playstation button/logo, not psp logo. havent read about the material change in metal, so idk i guess it could be even lighter then the 2000 model?? that would be like holding air :D

They need to add another joystick-pad-thing to the other side...
They need to add another joystick-pad-thing to the other side...
The reason they can't do that is because it would become a new system, PSP games that require a second joystick wouldn't work on older models.

Exactly, PSP2 will have 2 sticks, and will pretty much be a portable PS3, so it will have SIXAXIS, rumble built in (well idk about that, cause people would drop it because it tickled their handles or something), it will also have 50GB small discs. and probably the same size screen as the PSP and will have R1/L1 like the PSP, but will also have R2/L2 on the back as flattish buttons that you push with your middle fingers. well thats what i think anyway:p

This is the PSP2. And I saw these days ago. The screen resolution has been enhanced, the screen is brighter, it looks better in sun light and the graphics have apparently been noticeably enhanced.

No it's not. The screen resolution is the same and the only reason the graphics would look better is because of the enhanced screen (basically, the screen is more colourful and sharper.

Sony, sony, sony. I wonder when they'll finally realize that making the psp 22% slimmer or naming it "3000" is not really an update. It looks indistinguishable from the past two psp models. Give it a second analog nub and I will never complain again!

The one thing I really hate is that they're not making big improvements/modifications. I mean, they've released the same handheld 3 times now, claiming it's different because it has an extra speaker, or it's lighter. Bull, Sony needs to actually get off their asses and do something, they can never survive on the same thing over and over. With Nintendo's new DS coming out sometime in the near future, Sony's going to get blown out of the handheld market. Of course, they probably don't care because they could probably survive on the sales of the PS3 alone, not to mention all the HDTV's you need to actually play the damn thing.

I agree! Sony should spend less time making all these adjustments to the PSP and spend more time actually making some decent games for it.

Ohhhh crap. *puts bucket on head and braces for flame war*
Anyway, it looks nice but so did the first one... Start packaging a red one with Chains of Olympus and I'll think about upgrading.
(Yes, I know there is already a bundle like that and I was planning on trading up for it, but there's no point now since they have a new machine coming out.)
On a side note, I don't understand why Sony insists on just making new models of current systems. :/

Next PSP after the 3000 will propably be a new one, even sony knows you can't release new versions twice in a row without major changes. Still wondering if the PSPhone is currently in the works, it's a good possibility.

Sorry Jevan, but theres no way you can compare PSP's new so called "update" to DS' lite. The light had a completely new look, not one or two buttons changed, plus, the durablilty and lighting of the screens were improved.

well i think it SHOULD have a second analog stick! So they'll make new games.. Better to just replace the games and make them a million times better with two analog sticks rather then just to have one and make it harder to control

Well that would stab a lot of older PSP users in the back basicly, why make a game the older PSP's can run but aren't controlable because of the second stick of the newer version. Sony propably will someday release a PSP with two analog sticks but it will propably be the next generation version of the PSP rather than a normal update, i can't imagine seeing a PSP2 of some sort till at least fall 2009 or 2010. Handhelds have rather a short lifetime in technology than consoles.

Cerium do you own or have you owned a PSP? You must have played through a lot of its 300 games to know exactly how good its games can be, right?
Also why did you bring up the term port? They only referred to one port. You're confusing me.

I have played a PSP yes.
And saying there aren't enough "decent" games for the PSP is not just my personal opinion. It is widely known that one of the reasons the PSP is not selling as well as the DS is because lack of games. Why do you think the PSP has sold well but its software hasn't?
XCore
08-28-2008, 10:56 AM
The PSP is selling considerably well. The DS is overtaking the PSP on a small majority of sales is because of the different age gaps, I guess.
The PSP is for the more, mature gaming market, for example, you don't really see a horror game like Silent Hill on a DS do you? The DS is doing well, because most people find it more diverse, and more parents consider it as a present for a occasion over the PSP, is because of the amount of hefty, non violent games.
The DS is also used for educational purposes. I'd say the DS is more of a relax gaming experience, while the PSP is more like a casual gaming experience.
The PSP's software is selling good, Cerium, hence Monster Portable, and the PSP along with it's software is one of the reasons why Sony is still running.

Quite a big detail to forget that this site is not UK-based. Anyway it would still be an incredibly under educated thing to say that there's never been any PSP games in the UK top 10 chart.
Before you made it out like the DS and its immense sales meant that the games are more high-quality. You could apply that logic to box office success and say that Meet the Spartans is much better than The Shawshank Redemption, although I obviously disagree. I like my DS but it's not the 'hardcore' quality games that have garnered its success, they have made profit but it's the casual audience that have made it the hit it is, and a lot of this is because of shovelware products. So I think you had an invalid argument. I was still wondering how much time you have spent with the PSP.

Not very specific. How much of the Gamerankings' top rated 25 PSP games have you had a lot of experience on? These are games with over 80% from hundreds of critics. I'm curious because you seem pretty confident that the PSP only has a few decent and amazing games. You must have spent hundreds of hours on it, that way you would have a fair opinion.

I dont think a PSP game has ever got into the top 10.
Since you changed your point to the UK charts, a PSP game has got into the top 10, most notably Ridge Racer at it's launch, and Lego Indiana Jones a couple of weeks back. I seriously, don't think you havn't played a PSP properly in order to experience it properly. Both consoles have their strong points and their weak points, i.e. the PSP is more stronger than the DS (more ram, higher cpu count), the DS has a touchscreen for example.
Im sure if I said the same about you said about the PSP, towards the DS, you'd be saying the same. I prefer the PSP out of the DS, but you cant just say the DS is better than the PSP just like that.
I also agree with E_G.
