Nintendo has just announced the Wii MotionPlus, a plug-in adapter for the Wiimote that, as Nintendo describes it, can more quickly and accurately reflect motions in a 3-D space. This announcement comes just hours before Microsoft's E3 press conference, where the console rival is rumored to be showing its answer to the Wiimote.

"The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion," says Nintendo. "Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo's commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone."

Nintendo will be showing off the Wii MotionPlus at its press conference tomorrow (Tuesday, July 15). Will the rumored Punch-Out! be one of the first titles to make use of it? We'll have to wait and see. Either way, it'll be interesting to see how Nintendo positions the add-on. On one hand, it's great to see Nintendo continuing to push things forward in the motion control space, on the other, some will question why this wasn't included in the Wiimote in the first place, as it will potentially fragment the market.

Basically, it's the Wii Remote 2
I was hoping for a whole new peripheral, like the Balance Board, but oh well
One question though: how will we use the nunchuk? If this is supposed to improve our accuracy, I want to use it with Prime 3.

It looks like you can "open" a place for the nunchuck.

I see there's an extension port for the nunchuk. There is already a peripheral called the Perfect Shot that does the same thing.

Average news, but I'm not going to buy it, exception if it is free like the Wii Remote Jacket and the straps.

Also about Prime 3, I only hope Nintendo is developing the online portion of it, Prime 3 is a game I can Imagine that can work well with online play. Especially with the high res trophy models of the hunters in Brawl.
