At first I thought that said he couldn't practice Religion in the state. I was like "Damn, I thought we got past this :(." But then I re-read :p But won't he just go to another state?

I was laughing the whole time, it's about time that d-bag got what he deserved.

And even if he takes his anti-game rhetoric in another state, they'll get him there too.

Am I the only one who read this as "dismemberment"?

Anyway, I don't see why you guys are calling him a "d-bag". Its not that he did any of you a personal wrong - the gaming community is largely unaffected by his antics. In fact he has only raised more awareness towards it over the years (ironic, isn't it?)

I may not be a christian conservative, but I feel that Jack had one point when he said that video game ratings should be taken a bit more seriously by parents and their children. Of course, the way he went about it was worthy of ridicule. "Mental masturbation", "Murder simulators" - what were you smoking Jackie boy? By trying to shove his inert POV down everyones' throat, he lacked diplomacy - which rendered any of his good intentions, moot.
To me, he came across more as "Jack Thompson: GTA viral marketer" than "Jack Thomspon: ardent anti-violence video game activist".

Anyway before you throw a party, keep in mind Judge Tunis has only recommended Thompson. It's still up to the Florida Supreme Court to decide what to do with him.

The only people who I see affected by Jack's disbarment would be Rockstar - so much for free publicity. ;)

Well that's exactly why I find him a douche bag. My parents have their own rants about gaming too and how it affects the youth in a bad way, but they certainly don't go about it like Thompson.

What's worse is that he uses religion to rally other conservative christian parents (and the like) behind his cause- he also uses religion to prove a point, which to me is ridiculous. It's worse than you might think, especially here in Chicago. He went after GTAIV's bus campaigns in here too. Days later, Governor Blagojevich was considering to ban GTAIV in the city. Thank God, it didn't happen. :)

Ofcourse, I'm joyful at this news mainly, because I'm affected by his rantings more than the average gamer. However, what I find unacceptable is how Thompson criticizes games and I can easily bet that he's never actually finished even a single game that he talks about- he's just spreading lies about the gaming scene.

And surprisingly, Thompson hates the First Amendment for protecting video games as freedom of expression, but it's also what allows him to be an asshole. How ironic.

I have no problem with people who believe video games are bad for people, but listening to this guy for 20 seconds proves he has no basis for his arguments. Murder simulator? So pushing my thumbs around is going to teach me how to operate a bolt-action sniper rifle? Claiming GTA teachers children how to kill police officers is the most ludicrous statement I've ever heard. If you actually go out and do things like that, you had problems WAY before you turned on your Playstation...

I don't know if I heard this on VG, but I heard that he tried to blame Bully for his kid getting beaten up.

His kid got beaten up because his dad is Jack Thompson.

(insert O rly owl here)

Obviously, but the point is he's too much of a prat to admit that he's a prat, so he blames it on video games.

Exactly. His cretinous actions only brought more attention to games like GTA, making them even more desirable to children. It also brought to light the double standards permeating all media - movies with much more objectional content aren't given a second glance, and books haven't ever even required any sort of rating. There was an ounce of truth, though blown out of proportion, in what he was trying to say, but it was clouded by his absurd rantings (mental masturbation, murder simulators?). This is good news, if the deal goes through, for those pushing the envelope in gaming.

I was gonna say that >_>

basically, kid gets beaten up because his dad tried to ban Bully, dad tries even harder to ban Bully, kid gets beaten up harder, repeat.

Jack Thompson thinks that he removes all the bad video games then there will no more crime and school shootings. He blame microsoft airplanes on 9/11  *faceplam*.
