Yeah...
This is the official discussion forum for anything which is Metal Gear Solid related. Let me start it off. Has anyone read or bought the new MGS novelization? I'm thinking to buy it when it comes out in Europe.
Also, who has sealed a copy of MGS4 by pre-ordering it? I have and I got double reward points with game (w00t lol).

I've wanted to get into this franchise for a long time, but it's dead hard to find a cheap copy of MGS1. Do you think I should pursue the original PS1 version or the Gamecube remake?
In case some people didn't know, Eurogamer gave Metal Gear Solid 4 8/10 and IGN UK gave it a 9.9.

I doubt it. GameSpot doesn't give 10's unless the game is absolutely perfect. Grand Theft Auto was apprently almost perfect. MGS4 will most likely get a 9.0

Stupid. Eurogamer is never reliable.
The review had nothing at all to do with the game, it was mostly about the reviewer's personal feelings.
If they give GTA IV ( a game with many flaws and a smaller roaming space, don't get me wrong I love GTA IV to the max, but it has many flaws ) 10/10, why can't they give MGS4 10/10? Graphically, MGS4 is 50x better, the storyline will be more better, and the lasting appeal is much of a good standard.
And this was Eurogamer's ending comment:
"We love you, Snake. Don't come back."
Makes me wanna go kill the reviewer...

Yeah... GTA IV is slightly overrated... not saying it deserves an 8/10 or a 7/10 but it's not the best looking game and the game world isn't as big as other free-roaming games like Just Cause. It definitely deserves all those 9.8/10's and whatnot but to say it's the best game ever created is going a little bit far... as i said, a LITTLE bit. Not an entire 3 points, just by about 0.2 or 0.3

I think the whole GTA series is overated. The chacthers in the movie are forgetble (I don't remember anyone in GTAIII) unlike Final Fantasy or Metal Gear Solid.

well that's GTAIII, a lot of things have changed since then. GTA IV has a super-epic story and the main character is really cool.

I reccomend watching the Metal Gear Retrospective at www.gametrailers.com. It's probably not what you're looking for but it gives a decent overview of the story and some neat information about the series, including the original Metal Gear games. Did you know that Shigeru Miyamoto gave Hideo Kojima the idea of making the Solid series while they were having lunch? Whether you're looking for a completely in-depth analysis of the storyline or not, I strongly reccomend you watch it, it's really good. Same goes for their numerous other Retrospectives, such as Zelda, Final Fantasy, Metroid etc.

MGS4 gets a 9.9 from IGN. They call it "the ultimate Metal Gear game"

MGS4 gets another 8 from Edge. Not all of you would have heard of it but it's quite a respected magazine in the UK.

Umm, no Edge is respected, but their reviews are mostly jibberish.
They gave the previous Metal Gear Solid, MGS3, 8 and this one (MGS4) 8 so you don't really know.
How can a game by Hideo Kojima, the Peter Jackson of video games, and a game which was in development for 3 years be so bad?

Well games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Prey were in development for like 10 years and they were severely dissapointing.

I found Prey good though, STALKER, I got it with my Graphics Card for free, but havn't bothered installing it.

Yeah... I see what you mean, games like MGS are destined to be awesome. I guess the 8/10 reviewers got annoyed with the hype. Remember when everyone kept saying Halo 3 was crap simply because they were pissed off with all the fanboys and noobs? It was an amazing game, people just hate it when they get overhyped.

Well, I wanna wait till either PlayStatioN World (PSW) or PSM3 reviews MGS4, there reviews always seem reliable to me.

We already know it's gonna be great...but the question is, just how good will it be?
Anyway, mgs4 just received the prestigious score of 40/40 (rated by a panel of 4 people) from the highly respected japanese magazine, Famitsu.
I remember Famitsu handing out this kind of score to only 7 other games in video game history, so this is certainly good news.

Their reviews are generally quite respectable and unbiased, (in fact they can be a bit over-generous at times, they gave Haze like a 6.2/10 and Kane & Lynch an 8.0/10) but i'd like to see what they give the game; the only started reviewing in late 2004 (but REALLY got it going in 2005) and they highest scores they've ever given is 9.8 (which they gave to Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy and GTA IV). I anticipate they'll give it a 9.4-9.7/10. But you can probably tell they are quite big fans of the series, you should check out the Metal Gear Retrospective if they haven't already.

Yay... MGS4 is finally out! I cancelled my Game Preorder knowing that they will charge me £49.99 ($100) for the game, so I went cheaper and bought it from Shopto.net for £36.99. It should be coming in the mail soon along with my HD PS3 VGA Cable to play MGS4 in glorius HD on my monitor, my MGS4 startegy guide from PLAY.com and the game it self.

Glad you're all enjoying it. I don't have a PS3 and i'm new to the Metal Gear series (I can only find Snake Eater and Sons of Liberty... both versions of MGS1 are really hard to find, and Subsistence seems to have just escaped from the shelves for some reason :()

I am just.....astounded and delighted when I just saw gamespot give MGS4 a perfect 10. Rejoice mgs fans, rejoice!
My eyes literally went wide and my jaw dropped...I was expecting that they'd give MGS4 a 9.5 or something since GTAIV already got a perfect 10- and gamespot rarely (if ever) gives perfect 10's in so near a time gap.
Now I really HAVE to get it. :D I swear, I'm even growing a mullet this summer. Mwuahahahaha!
EDIT: Woot! IGN also gave it a perfect 10!

Hey guys, PM me if Snake died or not.
I wanna know because I never followed MGS.
I finished MGS4 a couple of hours ago, a pulse-pounding and breathtaking experience from start to finish. It did a very entertaining job at providing very immersive gameplay and for showcasing Kojima's story. It demonstrated what developers can do when they really push themselves and the consoles' potential.
Like the other MGS titles, there's a lot to take in from the story, so I'm still undecided on my final opinion. Like a MGS game, there are some really out-of-the-box scenes which I won't spoil but we could create a separate spoiler thread. I was also on a block-out from spoilers, trying to avoid secrets and twists, so finding them out for myself really added to the experience. I've been a huge MG fan for half my life so this was quite a special experience for me.

I got MGS4 Thursday, and it's outstandingly awesome. I'm new to the MGS series (just played a tiny bit of MGS1 and the first level of MGS3), and I beat Act 1 of MS4 in 4 hours and five minutes on Normal. Is that good for a beginner?

Not really... I Beat the whole game in 11 Hours, the rest being cutscenes, but I'm not sure... I'm a vet at MGS4 and your a newcomer, so hey. And E_G, whats your Konami Game ID? I wanna play someone online, although online is very buggy... >.<
And yeah, something which I really hated about MGS4 is *spoiler alert* (E_G might know what I'm talking about) when your in Outer Haven and going through the "microwave" tunnel, and you have to rapidly press Triangle, which hurt my arm quite alot. But you have to admit, the fight with Liquid Ocelot is epic as hell *end of spoiler alert.

Agreed. Cutscene after was awesome as well. Altogether, it took me 13:36 to complete in two days. I have to say, it was time worth spent. Now, I need to focus on beating GTAIV, I'm only like 40% done :(

I'm sure Snake will appear in the next MGS, because the FOXDIE in him *SPOILER* was confirmed by Naomi that it was mutating in him meaning he will only have 3months to live. Towards the end though, this was confirmed by Big Boss to be untrue, and that FOXDIE is mutating, but another strain of it is preventing the mutation. So he can live. Without Snake in MGS, it will be nothing, and that Kojima is leaving the scene, things get even more worser, because I think that no one can do it like Kojima. Whats next? Payton Productions (immature joke)? *END OF SPOILER*
