Well, in every pokemon series their has been 3 games to it. red/blue/yellow, gold/silver/crystal, and ruby/sapphire/emerald. well, what happened to the third for diamond/pearl. this may be the answer to that question.

Platinum makes sense, also considering Giratina looks more like platinum than opal.
